We’re looking forward to introducing you to S.P. Lowe. Check out our conversation below.
S.P. , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I start with prayer. Thanking God for waking me up, and for his blessings. Then, like everyone else in the world I check Instagram. When I finally make it out of bed I’m getting ready for work, grabbing coffee and taking care of the cats!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Shyreen! Thank you for caring about my small corner of the world. I am an indie author on a journey to bring magic to the pages that I write. My brand is Joy and creating that with words. I have authored four children’s books and I’m working on my debut fantasy adult novel, The King of Wicked Monsters.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I truly believe power comes from within. What do you need that power to do? Do you need it to leave a broken situation, or do you need it to submit a resume? It looks a lot like courage and strength and it can mean different things to different people. For me, I felt powerful the moment I didn’t ask for permission anymore. I followed my path, my vision, I did what I wanted and it felt like freedom but covered me like peace. That power told me to let go of what I thought I knew and what I thought I wanted and what didn’t serve me anymore.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failing. I wouldn’t start anything because I felt I would suck at it. That I wouldn’t be good enough.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Them. lol. I value my friends as if they were family. My friends know that with me they have someone they can depend on, someone to listen, to be there and to help them solve their problems. There has been times where that has been taken advantage of but I still try to embrace anyone I meet with open arms, hoping they will join our merry little circle of friends too.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I think about this a lot. It is one of the reasons I decided to publish my writing. I wanted to leave something behind that I created. To quote Hamilton, “Legacy, What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.” I hope I’m remembered as a kind person, I hope I am missed by someone, I hope my writing continues to touch lives and be useful long after I’m gone. I hope my words inspire, I hope I am remembered for the good and maybe even the bad, as long as I’m remembered. The story I hope people tell is simply: “She was here.”
