We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kiara Jones. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Kiara, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day right now looks like working from home at my full time job. I talk to real estate agents all day, so that’s cool. When I’m not doing that, I’m working out, doing vocal exercises, coming up with marketing strategies–you know all the business stuff. However, I like to relax too lol. I love a good reality show, painting for fun, seeing my friends/family, and spending time with my man.
Currently trying to get my sleep schedule figured out because it’s terrible right now. The word of the day is “balance.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kiara but I also go by TDT because I am THE DAMN THANG and I do THE DAMN THANG ~
I’m a recording artist based in Richmond, VA. I mainly do contemporary R&B but I also dance and host! My most recent project is part two to my EP, “SAY LESS.” I had the opportunity to collaborate with a bunch of female artists from the U.S to Europe on some great songs. I wanted to highlight different women in music during this era because I just love my girlssss. These songs detail confidence, resilience, and rising up to the challenge even when you’re underestimated.
Another venture I’m having fun with is my game show Trash Barz. It’s a light hearted game show where entrepreneurs come and spit some barz, do some music trivia, and get interviewed about their journey as a musician, business owner, etc. I started that at the beginning of 2025 and have integrated it into live events as well–it’s been going great so I’m loving the direction it’s going!
I’m ready to share more music, explore new sounds, and keep growing my businesses.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Okay, I have two moments where I felt powerful or that I was THE DAMN THANG lmao
1. I was in middleschool selling newspapers. I would literally draw comics, put school news, school gossip, write very short columns, make copies, and sell them to my peers. I had 2 runners that would distribute and we’d split the profits. I was only selling them for a quarter but I felt powerful cause those were my early days of storytelling and sales haha
2. I played the dragon in Shrek the Musical in high school. I got to sing a fun song, had a couple lines, and was on this contraption where I flew in the air and it is probably still one of my favorite moments on stage. Being in weird costumes is always fun, but flying in the air and watching the crowd looking both amazed and a little nervous was definitely a time. 14 year old me felt on top of the world
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell younger Kiara that life doesn’t necessarily gets easier–but you keep getting stronger. Instead of feeling like I’m not built for the challenges of life, it’s important to not be so hard on myself and that the growing pains are a blessing. It’s a gift from up above every time I open my eyes is a chance to keep finding the right rhythm!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe that everyone was my friend lol. My mom would often tell me “not everyone is your friend,” “don’t trust everyone you meet,” etc.
Even though she said it, you don’t truly believe it until you experience it. Whether it was a betrayal or feeling like I’m closer with someone than I actually am, I realized that not everyone holds me at the same level of friendship as I may hold them–and that’s okay. Everyone you click with isn’t going to go in the friend category. Every person you open up to won’t turn into a lifelong connection. People drift a part or people may not have the same intentions and I was naive to think otherwise.
I value the ones in my life that love me and I’m always open to connecting with more people 🙂
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m taking a walk or when I’m taking a nap. Period.
