We recently had the chance to connect with Racquel ‘Radcity’ Lee and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Racquel ‘Radcity’, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
To lead with purpose. When I first entered the entertainment industry, I had the opportunity to learn from and shadow talented artists, producers, and mentors during my internships in New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. They shared their wisdom, advice, and tips that forever changed my life and influenced how I developed my own sound and concepts as a visionary. These experiences shaped my approach to accepting leadership roles, as every pivot I experienced was not just for my benefit but also inspired and impacted those within my community to find their purpose, too.
I’ll admit that I used to be afraid to take up space in certain areas of my life, particularly in my career. I didn’t believe I was qualified to be a leader, even though I had been trained to work in environments where I needed to develop new artists or take on leadership roles. This experience pushed me completely out of my comfort zone; it required me to trust myself as I pivoted my initial plan and vision for my legacy and career to something only God could bring into perspective. I now understand what true purpose looks and feels like, especially when it involves not just myself, but also those around me whom I have been fortunate enough to teach and connect with.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Racquel “Radcity” Lee. I am a music artist, actor, screenwriter, filmmaker, model, creative director, and community leader. I knew at a very young age that entertainment was something that brought me joy, as I’d always been artistically inclined since birth. From singing and playing the piano at church, rapping at family gatherings, memorizing lines from my favorite shows, and even dancing around the house.
I have produced and written songs for various artists, including 2 AM Ricky (GLAAD), Khalil (BET’s 106 & Park), LaLa Ri (RuPaul’s Drag Race), and Justine Blazer (CMT). Additionally, I have collaborated on projects with brands and companies such as NOVA MEN, BET, GLAAD, Gilead, Amazon Prime, and TUBI. My mission is to “Create Beautiful Minds as a Believable Genius,” focusing on the importance of authenticity, self-confidence, and artistic expression without the pressure of external validation. In a world where perception is everything, so many individuals are afraid to take the risk to achieve their goals, discover their purpose, and fulfill the mission they’ve been assigned on this earth, so I use that message as a way to remind them that they’re worthy of making what some claim is impossible, POSSIBLE.
I recently completed my debut EP, set to be released in early 2026. This project serves as a love letter to self, exploring themes of healing, love, loss, heartbreak, accomplishment, and peace. While I cannot reveal too much at this time, I can say that the journey of conceptualizing this project has taught me a great deal about myself throughout the writing process. The EP also features collaborations that elevate the storytelling I’ve crafted.
My last single of 2025, “Wishes Come True”, is being released on December 1st. This smooth, cozy R&B/Soul record discusses welcoming love into your life and how your heart’s desires can be manifested when you least expect it, especially with a touch of Christmas magic. It’s the perfect track for the holiday season!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Whew, 2025 really put this question into perspective as I found myself experiencing several epiphanies about this topic alone, and I’d like to lead with this: your identity isn’t tied to your social media presence, career titles, accomplishments, or anything materialistic and external. That was a hard pill for me to swallow as someone who’d been trying so hard to have this perfectly planned vision of how their life, career, story, and overall vision should look by a certain age since I was around 15-16. I’d achieved almost everything on my list in the past 10 years, and it was hard realizing that particular chapter of my life had come to an end.
It wasn’t beautiful, but it took me not getting accepted into one of my organizations I’d set as the main goal I worked so hard towards achieving; something just clicked one day. Those past goals and accomplishments had become my identity without me even realizing it, and I had to grieve what could’ve been. I had planned my entire vision/career around those particular milestones, not considering the possibility of how my life would look or feel if those things didn’t pan out as planned. But that’s the beautiful thing about endings, they’re not meant to hurt you. Sometimes those things will happen to redirect you to where you’re supposed to be. God’s GPS may not be set on the route (the plan) I had mapped out for myself before getting started on my journey.
My biggest takeaway from this was knowing that it’s okay to start, whether it’s over, again, anew, or alone. Just start.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’ve always been more than enough; never let anyone’s perception of you be more valuable than the light that God has given you.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! Authenticity goes a long way in how I present and express myself, in how I treat others, and how I show up in the world.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people will be able to say I left a positive impact on the world by spreading kindness and love. I aim to create opportunities and spaces for fellow Black, Queer, and Neurodivergent creatives to be seen and to showcase their gifts and talents without fear of living their truth. To have created a blueprint that inspires the next generation of leaders and innovators in both TV/Film and Music.
I want the films I create to be not only a reflection of my own experiences but also a testament that allows others to share their own. I hope the beats and songs I write and produce bring joy to someone during their time of need. I want our interactions to inspire others to pursue their dreams or encourage them to keep fighting for them because they are worth it. I have always wanted to be a “Hope Dealer,” and I pray that my legacy reflects that, inspiring each person to be that beacon of hope for someone else.
I want the Racq Lee / Radcity mission to be seen as more than just a statement; I want it to be recognized as a movement.
