Kickman Teddy of Memphis TN on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Kickman Teddy and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kickman , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is waking up getting my day started with meditation and working out. Touring getting the opportunity to see the world and constantly working on new music.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello world I’m Kickman Teddy the Artist, drummer, writer, producer and CEO of Martianboy music. It’s special to me because I’m my own boss I try to make all the right decisions when it comes to marketing and branding. It’s very important to stay on top of everything and not get behind. I’m a go getter I like to make sure I’m putting in work even when it’s just me working on whatever it is that has to be done. I’m currently shooting new music videos and pushing it to radio as well. I’m working on my Sophomore album as we speak so I’m hella busy and excited. I also have a newly released single that’s called ( Body ) that’s out now on all digital Outlets including radio.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The world never told me I had to be anyone. As a kid I always had an ear and love for music. I remember me and my siblings would pretend like we were a group and traveling around playing music lol. So it’s always been there and runs through both sides of my family. I always knew that’s what I wanted was to be a professional musician/Artist.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Went from being signed to a major record deal with Justin Timberlake’s label Tennman records and Interscope records with my the boy band Freesol. We were able to spend a lot of time recording an album and touring heavy and having overnight success. Just as they were releasing the album I’ll never forget getting a phone call from Free saying we were released from the Interscooe label. I went spiraling down hill for a bit . From putting in so much work from something you really love to do from your heart to getting it ripped out. They say though what don’t kill you makes you stronger. I took everything I learned and applied it to myself and that’s why now I love being my independent self. It puts me in control of what I want as a person and musically. I love being able to put great music out whenever I want simply because I’m in control. That same drive and passion I thought I lost has now placed me back in the room with Grammy winning producers and writer’s again.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say that God first matters the most and of course my family, my son Mikael, Health, music and having peace of mind

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I gave it my all. And that I did me and was a genuine person who loved people. And never took anything for granted.
