Aviv Kuan of Los Angeles on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Aviv Kuan and have shared our conversation below.

Aviv, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Who are you learning from right now?
I AM LEARNING FROM MYSELF.
I have always been the person to say to my friends: ” you already have the answer within yourself, you don’t need no one else’s opinion, they are not in your shoes and don’t know the whole story even if you tell them”
I am following my own advice, listening to the answers I get from within, we get those emotions to guide us, to tell us right from wrong. We just gotta open our ears and be willing to accept the message.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Aviv Kuan, an Israeli singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. My music blends heartfelt pop with acoustic-folk intimacy, turning real emotions into songs that feel like honest conversations. I use songwriting as a way to understand myself more deeply – to connect with my emotions, release them, and move forward. Each song marks a chapter of growth, reflection, and vulnerability.

After spending the last two and a half years quietly shaping my sound, I’ve begun releasing new music every month. My vision is to build a musical community that feels like a safe space – comforting, cinematic, and deeply human – for anyone who’s ever felt a little lost or unseen. Through my art, I hope to remind people that their feelings have meaning, and that there’s real strength in being vulnerable.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that destiny was something already written for you – that you just had to follow the path laid out, do what you’re “supposed” to do, and make everyone else happy before yourself. Growing up, that mindset shaped a lot of my choices. But over time, I realized that’s not the kind of life I want to live, and I don’t believe that’s why we’re here. Once I started shifting my perspective – choosing to listen to myself and create my own path – everything changed.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I changed my mind about needing to constantly push hard. After spending two years in LA working nonstop and feeling like the needle hadn’t moved much, I hit a point of mental and physical exhaustion. I realized that kind of hustle wasn’t sustainable – and it wasn’t the life I wanted. Now, I focus on moving calmly and intentionally with my life and toward my goals, putting my mental and physical health first. I remind myself that this isn’t a competition; it’s a journey and each of us has a choice whether to enjoy the ride or suffer through it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I mean, easy answer Yes, but down to the truth, I feel like we always grow to know the real us, by creating it and by discovering it.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Something I understand deeply – and I don’t think most people fully grasp – is that there’s really no such thing as a “bad” person. Everyone believes they’re doing the right thing in their own way, even when their actions cause harm. As an empath, I naturally step into people’s perspectives and understand where their choices come from – their fears, their wounds, their stories.

It’s both a blessing and a curse. When I was younger, I wanted to use that understanding to “fix” or change people, or even change the world. But over time, I learned that you can’t fight reality into becoming what you want. Some people spend their whole lives battling what is, and it’s exhausting.

I’ve learned that real change doesn’t come from fighting – it comes from understanding, compassion, and transforming yourself first. When you shift from within, the world around you begins to shift too.
