Chef Krisitian Yu shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Krisitian, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Well, after prepping myself to start my day, I usually get my coffee before anything else. Be it Dunkin, 7eleven, or my instant Vietnamese Coffee. It usually helps me start my day. Then I proceed to check my emails while sipping my cup of coffee. Then I check my schedule for the day and see who do I need to call or follow up in terms of my business tasks. This usually happens during my whole day, and I end it up alligning my calendar for the week. Then I go to the gym. This is my daily routine as of now.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My Name is Chef Kristian Yu, a former Chef in NYC who became a street vendor and is now into food manufacturing.
For me, food has always been more than just business — it’s my story, my culture, and my way of connecting with people. Long before I became the founder of **Krazy Chef’s Foods Corp.**, I was a street vendor, cooking and serving Filipino comfort food from pop-ups and food tents across **New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Chicago, Boston, and Las Vegas**.
Armed with nothing but a grill, a dream, perseverance, hard work, and my signature dishes — **Pork Sisig, Chicken Sisig, and Pork and Chicken BBQs** — I built a loyal following one plate at a time. At every event, crowds lined up for hours, some waiting as long as two hours just to get a taste of my food. It wasn’t just about feeding people, it was about giving them a taste of home — that familiar warmth and joy that only Filipino food can bring.
Over the years, my events became a celebration of community and culture, proving there was a real hunger for authentic Filipino flavors in America. After consistently selling **over 500 pounds of food per event**, I knew it was time to take things to the next level.
That’s when **Krazy Chef’s Foods Corp.** was born — a company that I built on dream, passion, heart, heritage, and hard work. Partnering with a co-packer, I am now bringing the same authentic street flavors to the **frozen food aisles**, with convenient, ready-to-eat meals that stay true to their roots.
From humble beginnings as a street vendor to becoming a food manufacturer, My journey is a story of resilience, passion, and purpose. My dream is simple but powerful — to make **Filipino food a staple in every American home**, one delicious meal at a time.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
In my industry, the world and reality are my teachers. I am self-taught, and did a lot of research, lots of trial and error experimenting on dishes, how it’s done, the techniques, and how to master it.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“Keep going bud, it will not be easy, but I promise, it’ll all be worth it…”
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That it’s all gonna be ok when you’re on the top.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Taking all the risk. What happens in between will state the outcome of your story.
