We’re looking forward to introducing you to Michelle Huguet. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Michelle, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been going out and exploring more of Florida on my time off from work. It’s been fun attending local community events and being more involved in the indigenous community. I feel like reconnecting with my own culture and with nature is important for me to understand my roots. It gives me a better understanding of the world and where I belong in it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a film documentary photographer. I specialize in analog and alternative photography formats that range from 35mm-4×5 large format film in different mediums such as color positive, color negative, black and white, cyanotypes, etc. I like to explore and experiment, I try to learn something new everyday when I’m out photographing. In my brand I automatically include prints in packages when I take portraits for people, events, and families. I also document wildlife and botany to educate people about the environment and its importance to take care of it.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My kindergarten teacher Ms.Varela, I struggled in a different teacher’s class because of her method in teaching didn’t suit my needs in a learning environment and wanted me to repeat a grade because of it but Ms. Valera stepped in and vouched for me and had me transferred into her class. Her method of teaching suited me a lot more but I think she also deeply cared for her students and wanted the best for them even if it required more time and patience. Years after being in her class I would see her and she would talk to me about how much she believed in me and knew that I would be successful in the arts. She remains to be a huge part of me and the confidence I have in myself today. I think that incredibly important for people to have in their lives, someone who uplifts and believes in you when others don’t.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Everything is temporary, so don’t stress too much about anything unless it’s absolutely necessary to.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would probably say the truth matters the most to me. I feel like being honest saves a lot of time, energy, and effort. It makes everything much simpler and it’s just more efficient to just be honest.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m outside in nature surrounded by the sound of the wind, birds, and water. Far away from the noise of traffic and construction.
