An Inspired Chat with Dan Obermann of Milwaukee

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dan Obermann. Check out our conversation below.

Dan, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have been doing Choir with my Father in Law Jeff. We are the Bass Bros and have been just goofing around and having fun in a semi-serious community Choir. It’s a nice changeup from the much higher time constraint of doing a community theater show. I love getting to show up and practice joining my sound with others to create an even greater harmonius sound. It is so nice to be a part of something bigger than yourself, and it is a great outlet to use my skills I have been growing in voice lessons over the past year.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey everyone, I’m Dan Obermann, the owner of SoundBlessed, a wedding DJ and A/V company based in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I started this as a one-man dream with a pair of speakers and a heart that beats way too fast for wedding day energy – and over the years, it’s grown into a team of talented DJs who serve couples all over the state with intentionality, reliability, and a whole lot of joy.

What makes SoundBlessed unique is the way we combine personal connection, artistic performance, and rock-solid professionalism. We don’t do cookie-cutter playlists or one-size-fits-all experiences. Every wedding feels handcrafted, every timeline is cared for, and every dance floor tells a story about the couple – not the DJ behind the booth.

We’ve built a culture around showing up early, communicating clearly, treating every vendor as a partner, and putting couples at the center of their day. People often tell us, “It just felt different having you there,” and to me, that’s everything.

Right now we’re expanding beyond weddings into hotel and venue A/V services, corporate events, and high-end event production – while continuing to polish what we’re already great at. And personally, I’m passionate about building a business that grows with my family, supports other creatives, and leaves people better than we found them.

If music sets the tone for life’s biggest moments, we want to be the ones who make those moments unforgettable.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before titles, goals, responsibilities, and expectations ever entered the picture, I was the kid singing in the bathroom mirror like it was Madison Square Garden. I was endlessly optimistic, completely unselfconscious, and totally alive whenever music was involved. If a song came on, I wasn’t just listening – I was performing. My family used to laugh and tell me, “You’re going to do something in music one day,” and even though I didn’t know what that meant yet, it felt true.

I was the kid who believed anything was possible, who saw the world in big colors, who felt joy easily and fully. Before the world tried to nudge me toward what was “practical,” I was someone who simply loved creating moments, sharing energy, and making people feel something through music.

And honestly? That version of me never really went away.
Today, as a wedding DJ and the owner of SoundBlessed, I get to bring that same kid – the dreamer with a hairbrush-microphone – into the most meaningful moments of people’s lives. It feels like coming full circle.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell him: “Keep singing in the mirror — it’s leading somewhere beautiful.”
That kid who belted songs into a shampoo-bottle microphone was onto something long before he knew it. I’d remind him that his optimism isn’t naïve, it’s a strength. That his love for music is going to become a real career. And that even when the world gets louder with expectations, he never has to let go of the joy he felt every time he heard a song he loved.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would tell you that I care deeply about people, purpose, and moments that matter. They’d say I’m driven by connection – making others feel seen, supported, celebrated, and safe to be themselves. They’d also point out that I’m passionate about building something meaningful, whether that’s my marriage, my business, or a community around music and joy. And they’d probably add that I will always, always make time for a good laugh, a deep conversation, or a moment that becomes a lifelong memory.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d stop wasting energy on things that drain or distract from what matters most – overworking, overthinking, and saying yes to obligations that don’t align with joy, family, purpose, or impact. I’d drop the pressure to prove myself or “keep up,” and I’d zero in on building memories with the people I love, creating meaningful work, and living a deeply present life.
