Katrina Herritt shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Katrina, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have been enjoying going to a physical gym again and as someone who works mostly from home, it’s been nice both mentally and physically to get out of the house and add some daily activity into my routine!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Katrina, and I run the Etsy shop RusticPagesCo and social media page @rusticpages on Instagram & Facebook. I am a physical and digital artist who specializes in scenic, seasonal art and cozy book related gifts. I print my art on a wide variety of products such as mugs, shirts, desk mats, stickers, bookmarks, greeting cards, and of course wall art prints.
Though I’ve run my online shop for years, this year is the first I’ve been able to take part in in-person markets and events, from Renaissance Faires, to Vintage Market Days, to Creepycon and other fun themed events. It has been so fun experiencing selling my products in person and being able to chat with my customers!
Another impactful change made this year is my addition of blind date with a book boxes which come with a new book and a variety of matching stationery from my shop. These have been so fun to put together and I’ve enjoyed sharing my love of not just art, but reading with the world!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My husband and my sister have always seen the best in me and are my biggest supporters. Their support has helped me to become the person I am today.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure, especially in the art field. I went to college for a completely different subject for this reason, ready to go down a more ‘realistic’ career path before giving my actual dream a chance. I’m so glad I finally did though! And I think my path happened ultimately how it needed to, so I can’t say I regret the roundabout path I took.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The lie of the ‘starving artist’. I know plenty of artists and small business owners making a decent living from their craft and I think that fear of a life of struggle deterred me from pursuing art for too long and I’d hate for it to deter others from following their dream!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
At home with my husband and my cats 🙂
