We’re looking forward to introducing you to Aretha Morris. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Aretha, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Spending time with my grandchildren brings me so much joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Aretha Morris, the founder of Aurie Publishing, where I bring my love for storytelling to life through children’s books, poetry and leadership writing. My mission is to create stories that inspire, spark curiosity and create moments that matter most. From my Hilary’s World series to new titles like, T-Dino’s Texas Christmas Adventure, I’m committed to publishing books that families can read together. For those who love poetry can find themselves in my words and for professionals in customer service and leadership.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be I was always hopeful and believed in love. I believed in great possibilities for my life.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I used to let the fear of rejection and the fear of not being supported hold me back. Because people did not show up for me in previous endeavors I let that feeling paralyze me. But I’ve learned waiting on approval or confirmation from others is a killer. Support comes after taking the first step. And support often comes from strangers. So I’m trusting myself more to move forward.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends know that loyalty and support mean everything to me. I cherish the people who show up with kindness, consistency and genuine care for me because I do the same for them.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone I hope people tell stories about the way I made them really laugh out loud. I hope they talk about how I supported them personally or professionally, how I listened and offered advice when they needed it most. I hope they remember the resumes I helped shape, the doors I opened, and the opportunities I created through my connections. And most of all, I hope they remember how much I loved my family, how much I enjoyed road trips, and how much joy I found in cooking.
