Story & Lesson Highlights with Richard Musya of Montgomery County, MD

Richard Musya shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Richard, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I am ultimately chasing a dream of one day becoming an accredited director. If I stopped chasing that dream, I would likely feel very unfulfilled and unsatisfied with myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
417 Films is a visual production company which aims to tell a story with each piece. Based out of Montgomery County, MD it began with posting landscape photos of the D.C. and Maryland area to an Instagram account and later grew into films.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My stepfather, who I view as my real father, has definitely taught me the most about work. I grew up watching him work plenty hours to pay the bills and would often times go with him to work during his overnight shifts. Seeing it first hand taught me what it means to work. I credit him with instilling discipline in me from an early age which I carry on to this day.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There has definitely been times I’ve almost given up. The stresses of life sometimes weigh on me very heavily and it can lead to negative thoughts. To combat those I try to stay focused on the present and rely on my relationship with God to get me back on track.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my mother for her character and the resilience that she has demonstrated countless times throughout her life. I’ve watched her overcome obstacle after obstacle and smile through it all. To this day she has the same outlook on life and it has definitely inspired me to be similar when I face hardships.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I tend to feel most at peace when I’m alone. I really do appreciate my alone time and find it to be very therapeutic.
