Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Shemika Brown of Glyndon, MD

Shemika Brown shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Shemika, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about my final expense/ life insurance business is that our work is finished when a policy is wrritten. That’s just the start of hopefully a lifelong connection. the real work begins after that. Every major life event, birthdays, graduations, children born, grandchildren born. retirement etc.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shemika a Baltimore native, mother of twins, and final expense/ life insurance specialist. My motto is no such thing as UNINSURABLE! Regardless of health issues or budget constraints. I can assist ANYONE! Licensed in most states and able to assist my clients by phone.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Miscommunication and unexpressed expectations are what breaks bonds amongst people. Communication and patience are what restores them.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me grit and resilience. It also showed me true character, who I was and what I was made of. It sparked creativity. The inability of folding under pressure as well as never giving up was the most vital lesson in life. In the words of the great Kobe Bryant “rest if you must, but don’t stop.'”

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that relationship and family matters to me. I’m blessed to have 25+ year friendships, and these women have become my sisters!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I were to retire tomorrow there would be a riot! LOL My clients would miss my personality, great sense of humor but mostly my servitude. My clients become family, and they are treated as such. No topic too taboo or off subject. Many times, I find myself offering resources, assistance and guidance for things outside of the insurance realm. That’s ok that just means their trust in me and my judgment is immensely appreciated.
