Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jordan Metzner

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jordan Metzner. Check out our conversation below.

Jordan, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
I don’t know, every day is different. We meet with different teams, try to build new products and features, record a podcast or two, and try to find new opportunities, do business, and sales. It’s one thing after another, and every day is different.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jordan Metzner, founder and CEO of Ryz Labs. Ryz Labs is a startup studio we launched a little over four years ago, and since then, we’ve built and operated several businesses, including HipTrain, Offsiteio, NTRVSTA, and, of course, Ryz Labs itself, which partners with Fortune 500 clients and continuously develops new products out of our studio. Right now, our main focus areas are NTRVSTA, our AI-powered interview tool, and Built This Week, our podcast where we explore what we’re building, how we’re building it, and what it means for the world of AI and startups.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I think a moment that really helped me shape the world was the first time I went abroad to Europe when I studied abroad in college. It was the first time that it really allowed me to give a more diverse perspective on the world, and really allowed me to get the travel bug and want to continue to travel. And eventually led me to live in Argentina.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Almost give up, I think, almost every day. I mean, business is hard, and you go through challenges, but try not to give up. I’ve had failed businesses before, so you’ve got to know when to cut your losses. But I think what makes a successful businessperson is someone who continues to get up in the face of adversity. So while it’s easy to give up, it’s hard to keep at it.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
If it’s not my own ideas, then it’s not Sam, my partner, then it’s probably coming from ChatGPT

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Wow, this 6th question is pretty deep, and I really haven’t thought about it much. But I hope people consider me someone who is a builder.
