An Inspired Chat with Alison Midollo of Brooklyn

Alison Midollo shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Alison, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Oh lately I am loving painting in seasonal watercolor painting workbooks!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alison Midollo — I am a yoga teacher, holistic health coach, reiki practitioner, and community outreach specialist. From my own experience and recovery from chronic inflammation, burnout and anxiety after choosing to walk away from my dream career, my self-care lifestyle was born. These days, I lead restorative yoga classes, intention-setting workshops, group coaching programs and self-care retreats worldwide, while also developing community partnerships that make healing and eating disorder recovery more accessible for children and adolescents.

My work focuses on helping others bravely move from burnout to balance through intentional self-care, embodied rest and slowing down. I believe in the power of quiet transformation. In my own stillness & self-care practice, restorative modalities have been so shifting physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually & energetically. Ever since I found deep self-connection through stillness, it has been my inspiration to share this healing technique with others in support of each individual’s own unique pursuit of inner peace.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I had to work really hard and constantly prove myself to be seen as successful. Practicing slowing down has helped me relax this belief a lot. Now, deep down I know I do not have to strive or perform or chase a goal to be worthy — being fully present in who I am wherever I am at is valuable and enough. It’s about presence, not perfection for me!

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Failure has taught me more than success ever has. It’s in falling down, getting back up again (and again) and doing things differently where I learned who I am, what I want and what I am capable of. My resilience comes from my mistakes and hard seasons have helped me rebuild my life in ways I never thought were possible.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Definitely publishing a book!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Your purpose is where your two feet are.
