Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kate Crouse. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kate, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Honestly, I think I get my work ethic from my mother. She said you never had to be perfect and it’s OK to make mistakes, but always give everything your best. I’ve always tried to live by that so whether it’s my business, personal life, with my children, or just in general, I always try to do my very best and give my very best. I think that’s added to my success as a wedding planner because I’m always trying to make sure that clients get old-fashioned customer service and the best that they deserve for a beautiful day. I always go above and beyond.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi, I’m Kate and I am the owner and lead planner of A Touch of Whims Weddings & Events. I own this amazing wedding planning and design company with my husband Charles. We are an East Tennessee, and destination wedding planning/design and silk floral company. We do weddings throughout Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, etc. We started back in 2008, doing parties, when my daughter Sarah was born. After that, it turned into doing other styles of events and then someone asked me to help plan a wedding, and I fell in love with the whole thing. At that point, I really was doing smaller events and weddings, and still holding down another full-time job, and then in 2022, with the support of my husband, I really decided to just fulfill my dream of being a full-time wedding planner. We really focus on customer service, paying close attention to detail and creating beautiful, romantic and stress, free weddings. I really try to get to know every couple I work with so that their wedding really is exclusive too their story.
We recently added a team that works with us now and so I have a lead coordinator, who often does weddings on her own and just trying to continue to grow as a business. Also, regardless of what package you take with us, we come on board immediately and start working with our couples.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the three skills that really play an integral role in my planning business, are my compassion for other people, my detail oriented mindset, and the fact that customer service is so important to me.

My advice to other people that might want to get into the event planning business or really just anything in life, is to go after it .. if it’s your passion. Make sure you do all your research and always be open to continued education. Don’t let fears stand in your way.

I am always looking for other like-minded individuals , rather they are DJs, photographers, or even other planners to collaborate with and grow with. I think support is so important in this industry. I have so many other wedding planning organizations like Kinkead performance LLC, that I talk with on a regular basis. It’s not competition.
