We recently connected with Dr. Tanner Simmons and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Tanner, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have always enjoyed helping people. I have been very blessed in my life, and I have always felt called to give back. When I shadowed in physical therapy as a student, I immediately knew it was the field that I wanted to be in. Physical therapy is an extremely rewarding career. I get to spend considerable time with my clients, actually getting to form friendships with them. It is also very rewarding to see measurable, objective improvements. I get to see the positive impact I make in my clients lives, as well as show my clients that the sky is the limit for them! Fast forward 10 years-I am running my own physical therapy practice that enables me to give the best results to all my clients! The people I get to serve are my purpose, and they are what keep me going!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run a client first centered physical therapy practice. I have always believed that if you provide a genuine service where you actually care about the results people get, everything else will fall into place. Running my practice allows me to work with my clients one on one for the entire hour, ensuring they get the highest level of care possible. I work the best with active and motivated people who wants to take control of their lives/health and make the most of it! From golfers to gym rats, I want people to have the best quality of life achievable. I also partner with Project Access Nashville to provide Pro Bono physical therapy to people that can’t afford traditional therapy or don’t have access to it! This allows me to support and give back to the community that made me who I am today.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance is one of the most cliche traits-but for good reason. Everyone has their own self doubts or variation of “imposter syndrome”. Once you realize everyone has it, is it really imposter syndrome? Everyone has to start somewhere, the only difference between me and someone down the road is a few lessons they have learned. The more I continued to push myself out of my comfort zone, the more I learned and grew as a person. The more I grew, so did my business! Keep betting on yourself in whatever you are doing. That confidence alone can carry you to places you didn’t think possible!
Authenticity is another valuable trait. When you approach people with a “what can you do for me” mentality, they can often see right through that. If you genuinely want everyone around you to prosper, then relationships will flourish naturally, as well as doors opened for you. My advice is do some self reflecting on your personal “Why”, and then incorporate that into your life.
The third trait I believe that has helped me is being adaptable. In physical therapy, no one person/case is the same, so you always have to meet people where they are. Everyones goals are different, so being able to change my approach/mindset for each individual has helped me listen and understand people better! Though this example is for physical therapy, it applies to most every aspect of my life.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I always love supporting people around me, both my clients and similar businesses! I am always looking to partner with passionate people. Ones who enjoy what they do, and provide a great experience to their clients! I have built trust with my clients, so I need to know that where I am sending them is trustworthy as well. I collaborate with people in the health field all the time-from dietitians to fitness coaches, and everything in between. The easiest way to connect with me is via email at [email protected]
