We were lucky to catch up with Josh, Zach, Amelia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Josh, Zach, Amelia, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
We believe our generosity really comes down to how we were raised by our mom – she was someone that always worked hard and gave more than what she had to others and to us kids. Even around the holidays when we didn’t have much as a family we still contributed to the salivation army, adopted angels to provide something for, and did toy drives.
That is why we carry those same traditions even while our mom isn’t here through our personal lives and through our business where we have adopted local families, donate plasma to help out those that may need medical assistance, and look for any other way we can contribute to the local communities.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Howdy! We are Josh, Zach, and Amelia from Chandlr a candle company here in McKinney, Texas. Chandlr is our fun take on the bigger word “Chandler” which is what a candle maker was called way back in the old days. Chandlers made candles and eventually grew into your regular goods and mercantiles.
Here at Chandlr we specialize in creating small batch, high quality candles from our proprietary blend of sand wax made from all natural ingredients. We source most of our ingredients like fragrance and essential oils from companies right here in Texas and everything else from reputable companies that have the same clean and/or natural morals and ethics as we do.
It has always been our goal to provide our Chandlr customers with high quality, high value products which is why we put a ton of research and development into our products, scents, and production to provide bold and unique scents.
You may hear us say this a few times at our events but our customers do not come back because they ran out of wax or because they didn’t like a scent, they come back because they want to try a new scent.
We do not have a storefront yet…but that is one of our biggest goals. Right now we travel around locally and even further for events and markets and sell direct to customer on our website www.chandlr-candles.com.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities, skills, or knowledge that we possess that we believe gave us success are patience, commitment, and tech skills. As a family, we have dabbled in the candle markets for a few years, on and off from New York to Texas – while we saw minor success, we moved on to other areas in the candle making market like the tech-industry creating tools and resources for other candle makers, especially during the covid-19 pandemic when it seemed everyone was creating a candle business out of their homes.
The patience we exercise goes hand in hand with our commitment to our morals and ethics in creating our products. Ensuring that we focus on the quality ingredients, triple A sourcing, and the patience that goes into crafting the right scent that fits with our brand and in our customers homes.
What many people might not know is that Chandlr is 100% a small family business created by us – all of our production is in-house, our marketing, branding, and internal operations are all in-house. Our production is done by an in-house software called Makr Pro which was built and designed by Josh which allows us to connect to all of our inventory, production, batch creation, manage all of our raw materials and tons more. You can see more at www.makr-pro.com to get an idea.
I think the most important piece of advice we would share is that you not only have to treat your small business like a full-time job but you have to be yourself, you have to market your business with your personality connected so that it becomes authentic, just like you!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes! This is our next journey as a business – after successfully creating a product that our customers come back for and seeing the public reception of our product no matter where we go, our next goal/journey is to work with our local community businesses, stores, and shops to partner with through wholesale purchasing, white labeling, and custom scent creations for their business.
For example, we are currently working with a local liquor store to create a custom scented candle for a specific product of theirs that they can sell alongside during promotions. We have also been in talks with other businesses such as a local soap maker looking to match soap and candle scents with our unique product.
We think that we would be a leading expert locally and domestically to help businesses pair with a unique and profitable product like Chandlr.
Our primary goal is to work local with our community but anyone can reach out to us at [email protected] to start a conversation with us about any of the above.
