Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Lammers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jamie, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Experiencing art in general gives me optimism. I’ve always been an optimistic person, but over the last two or three years, I’ve had to work to get that back. Often, the most euphoric and life-affirming experiences I’ve had involve performing and sharing art, whether it’s singing in a new music ensemble or uploading covers and original songs to social media. Sharing art with others, and especially experiencing new art for the first time, is the best feeling in the world to me, and human creativity and excitement keeps me hopeful about the world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an undergraduate from the University of Colorado Boulder, majoring in creative writing, minoring in both music and cinema studies, and earning a certificate in Native and Indigenous studies. My passion for writing first developed in my junior year of high school, taking a creative writing class and an English class simultaneously that inspired me to be more creative. Since 2019, I’ve been writing for my local paper, The Mountain Ear, where I’ve published a weekly column about local musicians for over four years. I also write about local events, businesses, and more, and I’ve played an important role in editing and interviewing for the paper’s podcast since the summer of 2021. I took the podcast over in 2024, producing and editing the episodes myself. In the spring of 2021, I served as a member of the editorial board for The Colorado Historian, a CU Boulder history journal. At the beginning of 2022, I got a piece published in the CU Boulder creative nonfiction journal Hindsight, previously titled Journal 2020. I’ve also performed as a part of CU Boulder’s Renova New Music Ensemble since its inception in early 2022, where I debuted an original choral piece based on my father’s poetry in 2023. In October 2023, I was published in the third issue of Naked Cat Lit Magazine, titled Erotic Horror Halloween, but the issue never distributed in print. In March 2024, I was published in the online literary journal Written Tales. I passionately wrote film reviews on Letterboxd from 2019 to 2023, where I dumped all of my thoughts on every movie I watched. I’ve edited for The Afterpast Review, a literary journal focused on uplifting underrepresented voices, and The Creative Process, a podcast dedicated to arts and science. In July of 2025, I became a member-at-large of the Nederland Area Historical Society, and in September 2025, I became a freelance reporter for Yellow Scene Magazine.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe the three areas of knowledge that have been most impactful on my journey are culture, history, and art. Learning as much as I can about the variation of humans and their view of the world across the planet, the way people have reacted to events that have changed the course of their beliefs and actions, and the expressions of self that have allowed us to express our feelings and experiences of these events have deeply impacted my understanding of humanity.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Frankly, I would spend that decade learning about whatever I wanted to learn about, taking the challenges in writing and artistic projects that I wanted to take, and immersing myself into the artistic sphere completely no matter what the outcomes were.
