Meet Chantrell M. Lewis

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chantrell M. Lewis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Chantrell M., first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I stopped letting my insecurities speak louder than my reality. I started acting on the evidence – my work, my results, and the effort I put in – not the fear in my head. I keep a record of my accomplishments, big and small, so when doubt shows up, I have something to counter it with.

I focus on delivering value and showing up as the person my work proves I already am.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I work as an theatre arts director and lead arts nonprofits dedicated to making drama, music, and performance accessible to everyone. I create programs that help people explore creativity, build confidence, and connect with their communities. I’m also a singer and actor, and I’m grateful to continue performing and creating while being a new mom.

Motherhood has also inspired me to focus on supporting Black maternal and infant health. Across all my work – on stage, in the classroom, and in leadership roles – I strive to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive, and to ensure the arts are available to everyone.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have mattered most in my journey are courage, commitment, and leadership.

Courage has helped me take risks and step into new opportunities even when it felt uncomfortable. Commitment has kept me focused on my goals and seeing things through, especially when challenges came up. Leadership, both in guiding others and learning to lead myself, has been key in creating impact and inspiring those around me.

For anyone starting out, my advice is simple. Be brave and take steps outside your comfort zone. Stay consistent and follow through on what matters to you. And look for chances to lead, in big ways and small. These qualities grow over time and will carry you further than you might expect.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I pause, take a few deep breaths, and focus on one step at a time. Moving my body or talking it through with someone I trust helps me reset, and I remind myself to be gentle with myself while I regroup.
