Dana, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
What a great question!
Fortunately, imposter syndrome has not been much of a challenge for me but I do know that it can be a plague! The few times it has come up in my career it’s been an unpleasant feeling that that I am not doing a good job – as if I were falsely in a place of leadership.
I think for most women in this space of medical aesthetics imposter syndrome can be a really nagging feeling of self doubt. It may stem from low self esteem or perhaps from having to wear different hats that take us out of our comfort zone; it could stem from some other challenge that was faced earlier on if life too. But for me I see it as a spiritual attack.
On occasion this occurs, and I immediately recognize it for what it is – a lie.
Patients who come to XOXO Beauty do so for a reason. Every person who arrives shows up because that is who I am supposed to give my best efforts to that day. Each patient is someone who has a concern I can help them with and this is what I love to do! I problem solve for them in a way that they have great outcomes. So when I have a moment of doubt that seems to come out of nowhere, I consciously push back against it and say something like: “No, I’m doing a great job!” Asserting the truth over a lie causes the negative feeling to evaporate instantly.
My faith in God inspires me to believe that my career is my intended path, which makes it easier for me to recognize spiritual attacks. He would not bring me to this point from where I came from, and give me wonderful patients that I am not supposed to help and lead.
“Imposter syndrome” is a common term nowadays which makes it so much easier to deal with. For anyone dealing with this, I recommend you shut it down as soon as possible! I hope that is helpful.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At XOXO Beauty we specialize in natural looking transformations. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
When working to improve your health and appearance it’s of utmost importance to have confidence in your provider, to communicate well and ask questions when you have them,. Lastly, it’s also important to be patient because most of the aesthetic procedures we do in office require a little bit of healing time and some fine tuning while your body rebalances catches up.
