We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hari Bhaskar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hari below.
Hari, so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?
Acting school definitely helped me build empathy, especially when I realised that when you do a scene with someone, it becomes more beautiful when you allow the other person to shine.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a South Asian actor. I’m originally from the southern state of Kerala in India. One of my main aims is being able to push Kerala to the forefront of the world, similar to how Korean culture has become so popular in the last decade.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Never rest on your laurels, as that can cause you to stagnate. Always look to improve.
2. Don’t be afraid to be cringe. Honestly some of the best things that have happened to me especially in terms of my growth as an actor and ultimately as a person is by doing things that normally people would shy away from as they would consider it embarrassing. You win some, you lose some.
3. The universe will always conspire to make things work out for you. Everything happens for a reason. If something you really wanted didn’t work out, it probably didn’t happen for a reason which you may have regretted eventually.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic, which is a book on the spiritual leader Osho. Osho talks about how true freedom is achieved when one takes responsibility for their successes and most importantly their failures, instead on placing it on God.
