Meet Josephine Hunter

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josephine Hunter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josephine below.

Hi Josephine , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from continuously seeing the bigger picture of my future. That hard work while my body is young, I will be able to accomplish my end goals.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m currently in my Horticulturalist journey. I’m a certified Pesticide Applicator with my company and apprentice underneath someone who’s specialized in IPM work for 10 years. Along with doing hydroponic gardening tasks, my main tasks are identifying pests and determining best methods to organically & naturally eliminate issues. Keep the plants clean and healthy is what I love most. Ensuring that the products used for pest management have the least affect on people.

The most exciting is going through the plants and being able to confidently identify pests and disease.

Starting from my volunteer work at gardens and farms, being a sustainability intern at JCCC and working in greenhouses, I’d like learn all aspects of gardening within different environments so I can share my knowledge with upcoming young generations.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I were to think on three qualities that were the most impactful journey would be adaptability, positive mindset, and willingness to learn.

Best advice would be to be outgoing and connect with people. You never know who you’ll encounter that can help you along your journey.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m moving with my family to NY late Fall and wanting to connect with local farms to volunteer and become familiar with the area.

My future goals are to create my own herbal brand for skin and health care. Along with learning Chinese herbal remedies for overall body health.
