We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eliana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eliana , great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I’ve always wanted to sing! I think because it has lived inside my head for so long, it’s made it to where I haven’t had a choice! Even though releasing is scary because it puts you in a vulnerable spot, it’s better than not moving at all. I have made peace with the fact that you must start somewhere, so might as well jump and make adjustments as you go!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Eliana Grizzell and I’m an independent artist under the name “Eliana” from Nashville, Tennessee. I have grown up singing and it’s all I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember. I put out my first ep in February of last year! I am currently focused on getting music I’m super proud of recorded and prepped for release in the next year. It will be my second year of releasing music, so I feel maybe a touch more prepared and super excited. Excited for what this next year brings and am praying for momentum!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things that I have learned so far in my first year would be killing perfectionism, listening to myself,
and taking my time. I had to set aside my critical ears and just make moves! I realize that when I get to a certain level, I will have more studio time,
money to record, and more resources, but for now, I just need to make moves in order to become better and get to where I want to be. Listening to myself is also easier said than done! Fighting the urge to water what you think down to make yourself more “commercial” is a daily fight and a fight that you will not see me fight in the next year, haha! Being the most authentic I can be is the whole point.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! This is actually something I am going to get more serious about! I believe that collaboration and building a circle of creatives around me is essential. I would love to work with other writers, producers, and musicians, etc. I have just recently scratched the surface of a sound that is feeling more like me! I would love to find others to help me expand on that. It’s feeling a touch more rock lately, so I would love to borrow some creative minds from that world!
