Meet Arielle Brown

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arielle Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Arielle, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic comes from a deep respect for the craft of culinary. Cooking and baking are an honor — people trust you with their celebrations and most special moments. Remembering that responsibility keeps me motivated to give my very best with every single cake I make.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I founded Poppies Flour Shop in 2023 with one mission: to bring beautiful and meaningful sweet treats to life.

After years in the fast-paced world of professional kitchens, I felt called to step away and create a business where my creativity could truly shine. I wanted to be my own boss and build something that felt personal and truly rooted in joy.

Named in honor of my late grandpa, lovingly known as Poppy, my business is a tribute to family and the way food connects us to the people we love.

I bake cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other desserts for every occasion but wedding cakes have grown to be my specialty. I genuinely love getting to play a small part in someone’s big day. Knowing that the cakes I create become a piece of someone’s celebration means everything to me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities that have made the biggest impact on my journey are creativity, resilience and consistency.

Creativity helped me bring my unique ideas to life and carve out my own style in a crowded industry. Resilience carried me through the burnout, long nights, learning curves and all the moments of doubt. Consistency is what built my reputation. Delivering high-quality cakes and desserts, every time, created trust which has helped my business to really grow.

For anyone starting out, I’d tell them to experiment constantly and don’t give up. Figure out what works best for you. If you’re early in your journey, give yourself permission to be a beginner. Learn from your mistakes, adjust, and keep moving forward.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I do is step away from the kitchen for a moment to clear my head. Then I look at everything I need to get done and break it down into smaller prep lists. I prioritize what has to go in the oven first, what needs to cool, and what can be done later. Once my workflow is organized, I focus on one task at a time instead of getting lost in the big picture. Keeping your workspace clean and organized plus listening to a fun podcast is also super helpful!
