Shanice the CEO of East Bay Area on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Shanice the CEO and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanice the CEO, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am most proud of building spaces where women of color can share their voices and be seen. Whether through my podcast or my annual summit, curating moments that celebrate influential yet underestimated women is deeply meaningful to me. What many don’t see is the behind-the-scenes work: the long hours building the platforms, facilitating real conversations, and investing my own resources to make sure these stories reach the stage. I do this from the heart because I know the impact it can have. My hope is that this work continues to grow into a global movement.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Shanice, founder of Soul Movement Success, where I help women leaders and professionals at every stage of their journey gain clarity, confidence, and direction. My work blends HR expertise with coaching, workshops, and curated experiences designed to meet women where they are, whether they’re stepping into leadership, navigating transitions, or simply wondering what’s next.

Through Soul Movement Success, I create spaces for reflection, growth, and practical guidance so women can align their careers, choices, and personal goals with their values and vision. Many of the women I work with don’t even know they need this support until they experience it, but once they do, they leave with tools, strategies, and confidence to take bold next steps in life and leadership.

My mission is to equip women with the guidance, resources, and community to design careers and lives that feel purposeful, empowered, and fully their own, while also building a movement with global reach. I believe that when women rise with intention and support, their impact stretches beyond their own lives, transforming communities, workplaces, and cultures worldwide.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I remember shrinking myself in the playground/classroom/church/etc, holding back my ideas and talents because I thought I had to “play small” to have friends; to make others like me or want me around. I’d dim my shine to fit in, not realizing that in doing so, I was not only shortchanging myself but also robbing the world of the gifts and energy I could offer.

Now, I know that I am a source of the change I want to see. Playing small doesn’t protect me; it limits me, and it limits others. I’ve learned that stepping fully into my talents, voice, and presence isn’t just about me; it’s about creating impact, inspiring others, and honoring the potential I was given. Playing small is no longer an option. It’s a waste of time.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—almost every day. Entrepreneurship is far from a simple or clear-cut path. There are moments when I hit roadblocks or make mistakes that leave me questioning whether this is even for me. There have been times—honestly, just about every day in the early days—when I’ve wanted to give up. I remember moments when cash flow was low, my client list felt dry, and everything seemed completely out of my control. In those moments, doubt creeps in: “Is this really for me?”

But then I pause and remind myself—just like I remind my clients—why I started in the first place. That reflection always brings encouragement: quitting would not only shortchange the world of what I hope to contribute, but it would also keep me from realizing my own goals and dreams. More often than not, moving past the thought of quitting opens the door to a new perspective or opportunity that rewards persistence. Every path has pitfalls, but it’s how we recover, learn, and grow that makes the journey meaningful—and quitting is never worth it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in my industry is that work is separate from life, and you have to show up differently to get ahead. The real flex is making work a resource that enhances your life rather than takes from it. Another is that opportunities define you—promotions, titles, recognition. What really matters is whether they align with who you are and who you want to become. Only one you exists; choose opportunities that evolve your life.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think the biggest misunderstanding about my legacy would be the assumption that it all came easy. The truth is, every service I’ve built, every space I’ve created for women to rise, has been the result of intentional effort, persistence, and navigating challenges that weren’t always visible. My legacy isn’t just the outcomes—it’s the courage to keep going, the lessons learned from setbacks, and the determination to make an impact despite the obstacles.
