An Inspired Chat with Trenice Martin of New Orleans Area

Trenice Martin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Trenice , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, what’s been bringing me joy is a new relationship that’s totally changed my daily vibe.

After stepping out of an 18-year chapter, it’s amazing to be around someone whose energy is so grounding and uplifting. He makes me laugh, calms my nerves when life gets hectic, and somehow inspires me to dream bigger, create more, and be my best self. It’s the kind of joy that sneaks into every day and makes life feel a little lighter, my days a bit brighter, and just full of possibilities overall.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! It’s Trenice! Da T-shirt Lady, literally the name of my business (laughs).

I make custom t-shirts and party designs that turn ordinary moments into unforgettable celebrations. I do my best to make every design personal, creative and unique just like my customers. I also create digital party printables so people can throw amazing events without the stress.

Right now, I’m leveling up my brand to give it a more high-quality and luxe feel, while keeping that fun, personal vibe. I enjoy my customers and I love helping them celebrate life their way.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling truly powerful wasn’t really early. It was actually quite recent and that was the moment I decided to walk away from a chapter of my life that no longer worked for me.

At the time, it was scary and uncertain, but also really freeing. Like I was stepping into a version of myself I hadn’t fully met yet. I realized that I didn’t need to stay somewhere or with someone just because it was familiar or expected. That decision gave me a sense of freedom and strength I hadn’t felt before. It was empowering to know I could set boundaries, honor my own needs, and take control of my future.

Looking back, that moment taught me that choosing yourself isn’t just brave, but it’s transformative. I love who I am at this stage.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most in life is the fear of not being enough. It’s a quiet, persistent feeling that can sneak in when you’re chasing your dreams, doubting your abilities, or comparing yourself to others.

For a long time, it made me hesitate, second-guess, and play small even when I had big ideas and big goals. But over time, I’ve learned that “enough” isn’t about perfection or meeting someone else’s standards; it’s about showing up, trusting my instincts, and embracing my unique gifts.

The moment I started believing in my own value, I noticed doors opening that I didn’t even know were there. Now, that fear hasn’t disappeared entirely, but now it kinda fuels me instead of stopping me. I’ve realized that the best way to overcome it is to just do it regardless, celebrate my wins even if it’s a tiny one, and keep growing into the person I was always meant to be.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
No, not entirely! (laughs)

In public, especially in professional or work settings, I tend to present a more polished, business-focused version of myself. My true silliness and playful side are definitely dialed way down…more than people might expect. In reality, I love to clown around, joke, and bring a lot of energy and humor into everyday moments. I’ve learned how to balance professionalism with authenticity, but the full, fun, spontaneous version of me usually comes out in private or with people I’m close to.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left, the first thing I would stop doing immediately is procrastinating.

Life is too short to put off the things that matter most like my goals, my passions, and the moments that bring me joy. I’ve realized that waiting for the “perfect” time or letting fear hold me back only delays my growth. I would focus on showing up fully for myself and the people I care about, taking action every day instead of overthinking or hesitating. I’d invest my energy into creating, building, and making sure every choice counts.

Procrastination would no longer have space in my life. There’s too much to do, too much to celebrate, and too much potential to leave on the table.

I should probably start doing that now, huh?! (laughs) Being that we’re not promised tomorrow.
