Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Mirendah Smith of Pittsburgh

Mirendah Smith shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Mirendah , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Wake up , freshen up , pray and amp myself up for another day of staying at home with my beautiful daughter , breakfast & playtime also- while all that is in my motion I’m busy brainstorming what I’m going to do once she takes her afternoon nap – create content or edit or both

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Mirendah. I was born and raised in South Africa (the motherland!) and now call Pittsburgh, USA home.

I started taking content creation seriously—like most people—during the 2020 lockdown. We were all stuck inside, glued to TikTok, and I figured… I’ve always loved fashion (shoutout to my sister), so why not document it for fun and share it with the world?

A few years later, I’m still figuring this whole creator journey out, but one thing I’ve learned is this: enjoy what you do and show up as your authentic self. Everything else follows.

In 2025, I finally stepped into the beauty space—something I’ve always loved but was too afraid to explore. One day I just jumped in headfirst, and I’ve been obsessed ever since.

Becoming a first-time mom to a two-year-old pushed me to rediscover what beauty feels like in this new chapter. And honestly, if I can bring a whole human into this world, there’s nothing I can’t do. So I’m trying everything by any means necessary. I’d rather fail while trying than fail by never trying at all.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The first time I held my daughter, everything shifted. I realized the world isn’t going to coddle her, and that thought hit me hard.

We’re living in such uncertain times, and bringing a life into this world came with a lot of anxiety. It made me more aware, more protective, and more intentional about the environment she’s growing up in.

But in the same breath, having her awakened a drive in me that I didn’t even know I had. I just needed something — someone — to push me into it. Everything I do now, I do with her in mind. I want to leave a legacy for her. I want her to have generational wealth and a foundation she can build from.

She’s my motivator. She’s the reason I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and finally going after the goals I kept suppressing out of fear of being judged or simply being seen. If I don’t lead by example, how can I expect her to show up as her best, most authentic self and give 100% to whatever she’s passionate about?

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh, absolutely! Choosing to become a content creator is not as simple as people make it seem. It’s not just setting up your camera, filming a quick video, and posting it. There’s so much that happens behind the scenes, and it can really take a toll on your mental health.

From comparing yourself to other creators, to watching your likes, to questioning whether you’re even cut out for this industry — it’s tough. That’s why it’s so important to create because you truly love it. When your intention is pure, everything else eventually falls into place. Your audience will find you.

But speaking from experience, even knowing all of that, I’m still human. I still fall into the comparison trap, and I still have moments where I wonder if I’m meant for this at all. It’s definitely not for the weak, but it is a fun and fulfilling space to be in, because the creativity never stops.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family, love, and loyalty for sure. I’m the kind of person who, once I consider you a friend, family, or someone I genuinely care about, I’ll ride for you until the end. I’m loyal to the core. I’ll support you however I can, push you when you need it, and give you space when you ask for it.

When I love, I love hard. Not fast — but deeply.

Anyone who embodies those same values eventually becomes family to me. I don’t believe family is only defined by blood. If you’re solid, if you have my back, you’re family in my eyes.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I would absolutely regret letting fear stop me — fear of being judged, talked about, or simply being seen. I have so many aspirations for my future and a legacy I want to build for my children. If I allowed other people’s opinions to dictate my path, it would be a waste of a life worth living.

One thing I truly believe is this: people will talk regardless. Whether you’re doing something good or something bad, there will always be opinions. So if they’re going to talk anyway, you might as well make sure you’re living fully and accomplishing everything you’ve set out to achieve.

At the end of the day, we all came into this world alone and we’ll leave it alone.

So live your life to the fullest. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks as long as you’re at peace with your decisions. And when you’re on your deathbed — God willing, many years from now — you can look back and say, “I accomplished everything I wanted to.” Because life goes on, with or without approval.
