Hillary Hawkins shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hillary, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
I felt most loved as a little girl in the entertainment industry. Making my professional stage debut in the musical “Betsey Brown” by Ntozake Shange at Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick felt like heaven! There was mutual love flowing from my heart to every cast member to the audience, back to me, to the director Ricardo Khan, the choreographer George Faison, to my big sis Betsey played by Nicole Leach (Nicolle Rochelle) to the rest of the cast… Angela Robinson, Gene Anthony Ray, Alisa Gyse Dickens and more! I love them! I love all of them! Honestly, that was one of the best times in my life cause it’s like I have my real family! I love my real family! They would come see the shows! My mom took good care of me. And then I also had my stage family. We were able to do what we love, perform, and be with who we love, each other.
We all deserve LOVE!!!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Certainly! I’m an actress, singer and content creator that loves to spread love through the arts! Most people know me from my various roles on Nickelodeon. I also was a live events Host for Radio Disney and have performed Off-Broadway and in National Tours. Some of my creative credits include “Stuck for A Reason” (aired on ABC, CBS, NBC & FOX as a part of “African American Short Films”), “Protect” (aired on the CW, ABC, CBS & FOX as a part of “Gospel Music”), the web series “Actors Anonymous Hotline” and faith-based spin-off “Sunny Has a Dream” now available for distribution! What makes me unique is that I’m over 18 so you can hire me with ease but I still frequently play a kid. In addition, God has blessed me with a very versatie voice and a special gift for accents and foreign languages, garnering mass apeal for a global audience.
As a multilingual actress/singer/writer and 3X Voice Arts Awards nominated voice over artist, I get to perform and create in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swahili and more! People cast me in roles that call for British Accents, American Accents, African Accents, Caribbean Accents and more. At the heart of Hillary Hawkins Production, LLC is entertainment rooted in love!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful is probably in martial arts class. I was just a little girl but I’d beat up all the boys!!! LOL I wasn’t scared of them at all. Professor Harry Baker trained me well. I now have a Black Belt in Fusion Kenpo, a black belt in Chinese Kenpo and am currently training in American Style Nunchaku at virtualnunchaku.com
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was sad as a child, writing in my journal would help, also writing poems. And hugs. I love hugs.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Love! I am committed to spreading love no matter how long it takes! There are many ways we can spread love! Right now, I believe I am being called to create the love I wish to see in this world through songs, web series, musicals and more! Also, should someone wish to cast me in a clean and wholesome project like a TV Series, Movie and Broadway Musical and it feels like a match, I am committed to showing up on set/stage and giving it my all! My full love! Broadway here I come!!!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace in a warm and gentle hug. For example, when I was walking with my daddy the other day and he was holding me while we were walking I closed my eyes and could fall asleep. I love my daddy. And I love you! All of you taking the time to learn a lil’ more about me and my Bold Journey. Thank you.
