Rebecca Lynn’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Rebecca Lynn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Rebecca, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My alarm goes off at 6 am. It takes me 15 minutes to collect my thoughts and mentally prepare for the day. 6:15- I’m putting on my exercise clothes, and then waking the kids. 6:30- As a family. we are eating breakfast, packing lunches, feeding the chickens, Michael the rooster, and dogs. 7:05- Everyone jumps in the car, with a thermos of hot water and yerba mate tea tucked in my arms as we head out the door for the 12 minute ride to school. The 12 minute drive back is an uninterrupted conversation that my husband I enjoy before the craziness of the day begins. 8:00- My workout begins. 9:00- showered, dressed and outside to water gardens and care for animals. 9:30- I’m walking into the studio to greet the team and start the day. 1:30- wrapping up the morning and heading to make lunch for my husband and I. 2:30- Out the door again for school pick up, sports, errands, homework time or violin lessons, depending on the day. 5:00- back in the studio to finish the unfinished and get set for tomorrow. 6:00- family time outside. 7:30- feed animals, gather eggs, check gardens and head inside. 8:00- make dinner. 9:00- family dinner. 10:00- lights out. Its non stop, but full of family, farm duties and work, all of which fill my heart!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Rebecca, founder and owner of Vintage Giggles. This company is a small town operated quilt studio, where we create custom memory quilts. Although we have a handful of other items and a secret menu list that long timers can tell you about, quilts remain our most popular item and most favorite to create. Largely, that is due to the one on one work we enjoy with each client as we create their quilt. Stories are shared, and humor is applied to life, helping us all to remember just how similar we are, no matter how different our lives are. With or without children, born in the same decade or two decades apart, living close or living far, each client is a gift to get to know and work with.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Many of you may agree, but becoming a mother has completely enhanced the meaning of life for me. I am no longer living with myself as my sole responsibility. My world now includes lives I am responsible for, and everytime I hear, “Mom…” I am reminded of how much they depend on my care, my love and my support. Through my children, I have learned that the greatest thing I can give anyone is my utmost love and care, and the sense of fulfillment that results from doing so, places my own personal needs and desires in the backseat of life’s most significant things.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Looking back at pictures and sometimes longing for the days past, I’d love to whisper to a younger version of myself this: “You are exactly where you need to be. Do not rush nor waste every day given to you. Do the things you need to do with all of your heart, and for the unknown, let your heart lead you.” I have a feeling she would whisper the same thing back to me as a gentle reminder for the times when nothing in life seems to make sense.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
To answer this question, I will apply life as my industry, and culture as my boss, because what I have to say is applicable to us all. Today’s culture tells us that success is achieved when bank accounts rise to new all time highs, when social media accounts have mega influencer rankings with six digit followers, or when fame is achieved by becoming a household name. These are nice to have, but to me, the true definition of success is the simplicity of doing one thing at a time, and doing it well. The ability to focus and give one thing all of your attention in today’s fast paced culture is becoming an elite performance, only able to be achieved by those who make the one task that they’re doing, the most important thing in the world at that moment. Whether it’s a phone call, a quick text response, a dreaded item on todays to-do list, your child’s bedtime routine or prepping dinner. Doing that one thing well, thing after thing, is the simple way to achieve success.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What light inside you have you been dimming?
Words. During the biggest transitions of life, my go-to comfort food is words. Taking thoughts that I can’t even define and putting them on a screen or paper in front of me as a string of words that I can re-read and begin to make sense of is like oxygen to me. In doing so, I have connected to an inner voice that speaks clarity to me in so many ways that I have so wanted to apply that level of writing to topics in life that others can relate to. I would say that I’m dimming my own light in regards to my writing, as I tell myself that I wouldn’t have anything relatable enough for others to actually take the time to read. I know that is fear. And I also know I will face it and overcome it one day, but until that day comes, here I am being a little word dimmer.
