Rip Passy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Rip, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Every. Single. Song. That I Make.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
What’s up, everybody! My name is Rip Passy, and I am a 31-year old, San Jose/Sacramento-based hip-hop artist. I am most known for my honest storytelling, raw lyricism, relatable content, and emotional vibe. I write, record, produce, and publish my own music. I have always loved rap since middle school, and I even started going on YouTube and searching up the instrumentals of my favorite hip-hop artists at the time. I would then rap their lyrics and record myself doing so. Eventually, I went to college at San Jose State University and became highly interested in poetry. Once I realized I was a strong creative writer, I began turning my poems into actual song lyrics.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother ingrained in me a strong work ethic paired with a desire to be productive and accomplish my goals. I always tell her, to this day, that if I set my mind to something, I can and WILL get it done. This has completely influenced my music career. I remember speaking to her about wanting to pursue hip-hop, and she recognized the seriousness of my voice. It took her belief in me as well as the belief in myself to start acting upon this dream of mine. My mother always taught me that work comes before play and handling your business comes before anything else.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, most certainly. In fact, it was within the last three months that I decided to retire from music, only to be embraced by all of my supporters. They showed me so much love that I knew I had to get back up and continue pursuing the dream. If not for myself, I had to do it for them. Now, I am releasing a project in February 2026 entitled “PROMISED LAND,” a full-length album detailing our journeys in life and how we must always strive toward the “promised land,” or whichever place we want to be in life that brings us peace, joy, and clarity. That said, we cannot forget about the journey because it has shaped us into who we are.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am most committed to my upcoming album, “PROMISED LAND.” I have been working on this project off and on for over two years now because I want it to be perfect. And although there is no such thing as ‘perfection,’ I need it to be the best music I have ever made. Thankfully, I am confident that it is! PROMISED LAND speaks on the various journeys we take on in life and how they shape us into who we are. It also discusses my belief that we all walk different paths and arrive at different destinations, which is very personal to us.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! Even if I never blow up in the music industry, I would have regretted never chasing the dream. In the same breath, I have learned to accept that it does not matter if I remain a small, independent artist or a famous public figure someday. What matters is the impact I make on other people, the difference I make in the world, and the good-willed legacy I leave behind. I remember my old producer and sound engineer, Tim Abbott, once telling me, “Even if you’re only making an impact on one person, it is worth it.” That has always stuck with me.
