Bonnie Mangold’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Bonnie Mangold. Check out our conversation below.

Bonnie, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
One of the things that surprised me most when I began working as a financial advisor was this: even the most accomplished, successful people – physicians, financial professionals, attorneys – often feel uncertain about their finances. They’ve built careers, raised families, and achieved so much, yet many still carry the weight of financial insecurity. That realization drove me to shift my own career and help others find clarity, confidence, and real peace of mind when it comes to money.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Before becoming a financial advisor, I worked as a financial services litigator at a global law firm representing clients in complex cases across the country. That experience taught me how to think strategically, anticipate risks, and advocate with precision – skills that now help me guide clients through the financial decisions that matter most.

Today, I provide personalized and holistic financial planning designed to empower clients at every stage of life. Whether it’s mitigating taxes, saving for retirement, paying down debt, investing with intention, or preparing for a major career transition, my goal is to make sure each plan reflects their unique goals, values, and life circumstances.

Many of my clients are first-generation professionals, women, minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I trained in the martial arts starting at age 3, and I attained my black belt at age 8. That achievement made me feel powerful, strong, and confident, and this has translated into continued confidence into adulthood.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Always remember to build work around your life. Not the other way around!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Many people believe that financial planning is only for the rich and famous. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I believe the starting point of any financial conversation should be with you: your life, your family, your priorities, and your goals. I listen to what’s important to you and design a financial plan from multiple strategies specifically designed to help get you where you want to be.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people remember me as someone who made the pie bigger. The person who made room for more people at “the table.”
