Hannah Schlichter of Belmont Heights on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Hannah Schlichter shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am a huge fan of wandering. Whenever I travel, I love to make no plans, and just wander around different neighborhoods and streets and see what kind of people I can meet and good food or coffee I can try. I try to implement this elevated feeling of traveling when I am in my own local city, Long Beach, California. If I have free time, I love to just wander without a plan to emulate the version of myself that I feel when I am traveling. I love feeling this freedom and curiosity for the world.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Hannah Leib Schlichter. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and have my own private practice called Grow and Glow Child Therapy LA. I work with children, teens, and even some adults. I also work with parents to help them understand their child better as well as learn practical skills based on their child’s age and specific challenge they are facing. I love to implement art and creativity into my individualized work with each client and family. For example: if a child loves cats, I can build art activities, games, and pull from evidence based interventions, but implement cats into it. For example using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy thought log, but add cat elements to it. (That is just one example). I try my best to be the therapist I wish I had when I was a child or teen. I struggled a lot with anxiety when I was younger, and held it in, as I did not have the vocabulary or tools to express what I was feeling. My mission is to help children feel more in touch with themselves and reduce shame about how they feel. I want them to learn they can be accepted exactly as they are. I want to equip parents with education and tools so they can best support and understand their child

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I was a shy, small, and quiet child. I never really believed in myself. I was so awkward and anxious, but held in all of my worries. I no longer believe I am meant to be small- I believe I am made to make a big impact!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say: Hannah, not everyone needs to like you, that is not your job in life, to be liked by everyone. I hope you can be yourself instead of try and mold yourself into who you think people will like.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Friends, family, and experiences.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am outside, in fresh air, and not overthinking about a to do list or what I need to do next. Just being
