Meet Matthew Chung

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matthew Chung. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Matthew, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive by trying new things, experiencing new places, and meeting new people. I’m constantly inspired by different forms of art and ways of life. I’m fascinated by the capabilities of the human mind and the power of storytelling, and how we’re able to express ourselves through so many different mediums.
Right now, film and photography are my main thing, but my first love was actually drawing and painting—that’s what I did as a kid. I’m always searching for different ways of expressing myself.
My greatest source of inspiration though is nature. It’s crazy to comprehend how beautiful and diverse our world is, and there’s no better place to imagine what’s possible than by simply getting outside. That’s where my best ideas come to light.
I also love travelling because it opens up my mind in so many new ways. I’m able to see how different people live and how the world is shaped in different areas, and that in itself keeps me creative.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a professional filmmaker and photographer, and I co-own a creative agency with my girlfriend. We work with brands in the outdoor lifestyle and travel space, with a particular focus on eco-conscious and sustainable companies. Essentially, we help businesses tell their stories in ways that are impactful for them and the planet. We also reinvest a percentage of our profits into environmental initiatives like planting trees around the world.

Beyond the commercial work, I’m deeply passionate about helping other ambitious people become the most vibrant, authentic version of themselves. Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, I’ve faced real challenges with mental health—imposter syndrome, comparison, overthinking, losing track of who I am trying to fit into someone else’s box. A lot of the content I share online stems from those experiences.

I’ve realized that real growth, whether in creativity or business, always starts from within. If I grow as a person and focus on myself, success follows in everything else. That’s why I’m so passionate about personal development, health, wellness, and mindfulness. The stories I tell revolve around my own journey, and I hope people can see themselves in them and feel inspired to chase their dreams or take action on goals they’ve been putting off.

Right now, I’m pouring my heart into YouTube. It’s the platform where I feel most aligned, where I don’t have to dilute my message, and can tell stories in a format that feels most fulfilling to me. My big goal for 2026 is to create more long-form content with deeper meaning, documenting my life and experiences to inspire others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say authenticity, adaptability, and curiosity have been the most impactful qualities in my journey.

Authenticity is your foundation. Especially as the world becomes more digital—with apps constantly pulling for your attention and AI replacing jobs—knowing yourself deeply is your superpower. When I’ve lost track of who I am, it’s always led to stress, anxiety, comparison, and imposter syndrome. But whenever I’ve realigned my actions and goals to match who I actually am (outside of all the external noise), success and fulfillment have always followed. That needs to be your North Star.

Adaptability is how you grow. Being able to roll with the punches and embrace change, without losing yourself in the process, is so important. A lot of people resist change, but that’s just resisting growth. Find joy in the discomfort and adapt when things get hard. This skill becomes even more critical as industries shift and evolve.

Curiosity keeps life fresh. Instead of shying away from things that feel foreign, stay curious about them. I’ve experienced so much joy in my life simply because I’ve stayed curious—about new places, people, creative mediums, different perspectives. I think about that childlike wonder I had as a kid, and I try to hold onto that. You never know how impactful something will be on your life until you try.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

I listened to a podcast recently that defined the meaning of life in 5 words: Enjoying the passage of time. That, in a nutshell, is what I would try to do if I had one decade left to live.

I’d travel to places I’m curious about.

I’d work on projects because of how they make me feel instead of how much money they make me.

I’d take more risks, say hi to more strangers, and say how I feel more often.

I’d try as many new things as possible—anything I thought was scary or had a passing thought about at one point.

I’d spend as much time as I can with the people I love and give back to my family that made me who I am.

And of course, I’d continue to focus on my fitness, mental health, and everything else I can to remain healthy and feeling my best.
