Meet Frank Muze

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Frank Muze. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Frank, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

As a musician, hearing the word “no” is an everyday occurrence. Being rejected for show line ups, tour opportunities and collaborative requests is something that simply comes with the territory. As a young man I’d get overwhelmed with doubt and frustration every time I was rejected. I was consumed with anger over what I felt I had earned and deserved. It wasn’t until years later that I began putting those rejections into perspective and learned that (most of the time) it was nothing personal. Other people in the industry were simply doing their jobs, and sometimes their plans didn’t include me.. I started to understand that hearing the word “no” wasn’t a reflection of my effort, or even of the work I had presented, but rather an unavoidable truth that everybody deals with. I became more accepting of roadblocks as I started to find the validation I craved in how it helped other people, rather than how it helped me. Over time that attitude has allowed me to overcome obstacles and toughen my skin so that I’m ready for whatever’s thrown my way. Good or bad.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Frank Muze. I’m an American musician currently based in the suburbs of Cleveland, OH. I began making music more than 20 years ago. I’ve presented and performed my songs across the country, charted in the West Asian country of Bahrain, and have worked with several iconic producers and musicians, such as multi platinum singer, Jelly Roll. Throughout my career I’ve been well known for using elements of all my favorite genres to create my own unique sound, lovingly called, “FunkyRockinSoulMusic.” Using a mixture of Pop, Hip Hop, Rock and Soul music (along with whatever else I’m feeling that day), I’ve been able to cultivate a truly special brand that’s been embraced by thousands of people due to it’s smooth sound and positive message of peace, love and unity.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The 3 qualities that have helped me most on my journey were learned over time through trail and error. The first is patience. I do everything fast, so learning to slow down and allow the process to work has been of great value. The second is spending time learning to be great. Becoming undeniable. Practicing my craft. Creating something different that can be embraced and loved. It wasn’t until I really delved into finding my own path that I excelled. The third thing that I’ve done is learned to forgive myself and move on when I make mistakes. Becoming something bigger than yourself happens when learn from your mistakes, without them I wouldn’t have been able to recognize success.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin is a book I’d recommend to every single person I know. The most important lesson I learned from this book is to be resilient in the face of failure, take accountability for the flaws, and be self motivated enough to fix them.
