Meet Kevin Edwards

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Edwards. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kevin, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?

I’ve learned to tune out what people say or do and focus completely on the voice I hear within me—the one that leads and guides me. From the very beginning of my musical and literary journey, there have been haters and naysayers. Instead of allowing them to discourage me, I’ve come to understand their role in my life. They don’t stop my purpose; they actually fuel it. Their doubt reminds me why I must keep going.

I stay rooted in who God has called me to be, trusting that the gift placed inside me was given for a reason. When I sing or writing, It’s not done for approval—I’m answering a calling. As long as I remain obedient to that calling and focused on the assignment God has given me, the noise fades and the purpose gets louder.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

At the core of everything I do—whether through music, writing, or social work—is healing. Music is my first language. Through song, I create space for people to feel seen, encouraged, and reminded that their story still matters. I don’t just sing to perform; I sing to minister, to restore hope, and to speak life into people who may feel forgotten or overlooked.

As an author, I write stories that reflect resilience, faith, and perseverance—especially for children and young people. Many of my books center on overcoming fear, bullying, anxiety, and self-doubt. I believe representation matters, and I’m intentional about telling stories that affirm identity, compassion, and courage while planting seeds of confidence and purpose.

My work as a social worker grounds everything. It keeps me connected to real life—real struggles, real trauma, and real triumphs. Serving individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, incarceration, and life transitions has shaped my voice and sharpened my compassion. It reminds me daily why my art must be honest, hopeful, and rooted in purpose.

What makes my brand special is that it’s not separated into compartments—my music, my books, and my social work all flow from the same mission: to uplift, educate, and empower. Faith is the foundation. I believe God uses every part of my journey to reach people right where they are.

Currently, I’m continuing to expand my creative and community work through live performances, speaking engagements, and new writing projects that blend faith, storytelling, and social impact. Whether on a stage, on the page, or in the community, my goal remains the same—to use every gift I’ve been given to inspire hope and help others move forward.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three things have been most impactful in my journey: faith, emotional intelligence, and discipline.

Faith has been my foundation. It gave me clarity when the path wasn’t clear and confidence when my voice was questioned. Faith taught me that purpose isn’t something you chase—it’s something you answer. My advice is to stay connected to whatever grounds you spiritually. Spend time listening, praying, journaling, or reflecting so you can recognize the voice guiding you and not be distracted by outside noise.

Emotional intelligence has been just as important as talent. Through my work as a social worker and through life itself, I’ve learned how to sit with people in their pain, understand my own emotions, and respond with compassion instead of reaction. For those starting out, learn to listen more than you speak. Pay attention to how you feel, how others feel, and how your work impacts people. Growth happens when you understand yourself and others deeply.

Discipline is what keeps you moving when motivation fades. Consistency in practice, writing, rehearsing, studying, and showing up—even when no one is watching—has shaped my journey more than any moment of applause. My advice is simple: commit to the process. Create routines, honor your craft, and be patient with yourself. Purpose unfolds over time, not overnight.

If you’re early in your journey, know this: talent opens doors, but faith, self-awareness, and discipline are what help you walk through them and stay the course.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

I would spend that decade emptying myself of everything God placed inside of me. Every song, every story, every lesson—whether through music, books, or service—I would give it all away. I would create relentlessly, love intentionally, and pour into people without hesitation.

My goal would be to leave a legacy, not of fame, but of faith, hope, and impact. When I leave this earth, I want to be completely empty—knowing I gave voice to every message, wrote every story, and shared every gift God entrusted to me. If my work continues to inspire, heal, or encourage someone after I’m gone, then I will have lived that decade well.
