We recently connected with Christine Bastien and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from a deep combination of faith, lived experience, and responsibility.
I was raised learning that you keep going, even when things are uncertain. Life taught me early that stability isn’t guaranteed, and that if I wanted to build something meaningful, I would have to be consistent even when motivation was gone. Over time, resilience stopped being something I found and became something I practiced daily.
Faith plays a central role in that. Prayer grounds me when things feel overwhelming and reminds me that I’m not carrying everything alone. It gives me perspective that setbacks are not the end of the story, but part of a bigger process of growth and refinement.
Entrepreneurship also shaped my resilience. Building my businesses meant facing rejection, financial pressure, self doubt, and moments where quitting would have been easier. There were seasons where progress was slow and unseen, but I learned to keep showing up, to adjust, to learn, and to trust the process. Each challenge strengthened my patience, discipline, and belief in myself.
Finally, my resilience comes from purpose. I’m driven by the desire to create, to serve, and to leave something meaningful behind. When you know why you’re doing something, you learn how to endure the hard parts.
Resilience, for me, isn’t about never breaking it’s about choosing to rise again, with more clarity, faith, and strength than before.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an entrepreneur and the founder of CREABO and Zesty Lakay, two purpose-driven brands rooted in care, culture, and intention.
CREABO is a beauty and wellness brand focused on natural haircare, skincare, candles, and selfcare essentials. The brand was created from a personal desire to make selfcare more intentional not just something we do occasionally, but a daily practice that nurtures confidence, discipline, and restoration. Every product is thoughtfully developed to care for both the body and the spirit.
Zesty Lakay is a food and cultural brand inspired by my Haitian roots and the traditions I grew up with. Through spice blends, chocolates, and heritage inspired products, Zesty Lakay celebrates culture, family, and the stories passed down through food. It’s about preserving flavors, honoring home, and creating moments of connection around the table.
What excites me most is building brands that tell a story and serve a deeper purpose. Both CREABO and Zesty Lakay reflect my journey one shaped by resilience, faith, and consistency. I’ve built each brand hands-on, learning every aspect of entrepreneurship while staying grounded in values of quality, authenticity, and community.
Currently, I’m focused on expanding both brands through new product launches, improved packaging, and deeper community engagement, while continuing to build businesses that are sustainable and meaningful. My goal is to create brands that not only serve customers, but also inspire others especially women to trust their vision, honor their roots, and build with intention.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been consistency, self awareness, and adaptability.
1. Consistency
Consistency has mattered more than talent or motivation. There were seasons where progress was slow, visibility was low, and results weren’t immediate. What made the difference was showing up anyway continuing to create, refine, and learn even when no one was watching.
Advice: Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Build small, daily habits that move you forward. Consistency compounds over time.
2. Self Awareness
Understanding my strengths, limits, and values helped me make better decisions as an entrepreneur. It taught me when to push, when to rest, and when to ask for help. Self awareness also kept me aligned with my purpose instead of comparing my journey to others.
Advice: Take time to reflect regularly. Pay attention to what energizes you and what drains you that clarity will guide your growth.
3. Adaptability
Entrepreneurship requires flexibility. Plans change, challenges arise, and you often have to learn on the go. Building CREABO and Zesty Lakay taught me how to pivot, improve, and evolve without losing the heart of the brand.
Advice: Stay open to learning. View challenges as feedback, not failure, and be willing to adjust your approach.
Ultimately, these qualities work together. Consistency keeps you moving, self-awareness keeps you grounded, and adaptability keeps you growing. When combined with faith and purpose, they create a strong foundation for long term success.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The people who have helped me most are a combination of family, mentors, and community but above all, my faith has been my foundation.
My family instilled in me the values of responsibility, perseverance, and integrity. Watching their sacrifices and work ethic shaped how I approach challenges and commitment in my own life. Even when the path wasn’t clear, their support and example kept me grounded.
I’ve also learned a great deal through mentors and peers along the way people who shared honest advice, encouragement, and perspective at critical moments. Sometimes it wasn’t formal mentorship, but simple conversations, observations, and shared experiences that helped me grow.
Equally important has been learning through experience. Entrepreneurship teaches you quickly where you need to grow, and each challenge became a lesson in patience, discipline, and humility. Prayer and reflection helped me process those lessons and keep moving forward with clarity.
Success, for me, hasn’t been a solo journey. It’s been shaped by the people who believed in me, challenged me, and reminded me of my purpose especially during seasons when the work felt heavy.
