We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Abram Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Abram below.
Abram, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
At the beginning of this year, I have actually taken a big step back from my work. The output this year has been much less, and that’s mainly due to my burnout. I wanted to keep the same pace I was going while making my quality better. Sadly for me, that’s just not how things go. The more I’d try to do everything myself, the more I couldn’t even make it to the first step. I knew it was time for me to take a break. I do what I always do when I’m trying to find myself again: I start traveling, watching movies, listening to interviews, people watching, bar hopping (minimum drinking). I do what I can to find my spark to where I’ll go next. To me, when I burn out, it’s like I beat an idea to the ground or I’ve been running in circles. Two artist i can think of are the band Gorillaz and, of course, Ye, FKA Kanye West. The era are diffrent, you are never where you start, but sometimes we as people lose our grounding. It’s your own job to find it again, what/whereever it is.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
What do I do? It’s a question I still ask myself a lot. I’m a doer when I put my mind to something; I see what I can do to make it happen. I’ve made things from handbags to shortfilms, you name it. I had to form a creative group to house all my ideas. The name of my group is KYD PAT. That stands for Kids You Didn’t Pay Attention To. The meaning is we do all this cool shit, but you didn’t pay any attention, and that’s your fault. All these cool things in the world, and you didn’t pay attention?!? Go find that cool stuff, go search for it. We want the whole world to realize there are things for anyone out there, but you have to pay attention to them.
I’ve recently started dropping more project currently we are about to pass #250, which is exciting. We have a lot that we plan on dropping next year, like short films, photos, podcasts, Dj mixes, and even apparel drops. Everything is made in-house by just us, of course. We post mostly everything on our Instagram, but we have big ideas. Me? I have humongous plans for the future, and I can’t wait.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. No one is going to save you. You will fall, and if you’re not the first to get yourself up whenever it’s just you, it’ll all fall.
2. If you can see yourself in 5 years clearly in a better position, then you must look at the present and fix your habits.
3. Your passion is your fire. Never ever let it burnout cause if you let it burn out, you should have never tried in the first place.
4. Work with what you’ve got if you don’t have what you need for the bare minimum. “Get your money up” and go get it. If you have life, YOU must make it within that life.
I am 22 with 2 kids, a job, and many responsibies too many people call me crazy, but I still make time for my creative work, even if that mean i dont have to sleep.
So make time and start with the minimum work, your way up and you should be fine.

How would you describe your ideal client?
I love people who understand that to go far, you have to do things you might not want to do. I want to make it clear that I’m not talking about anything illegal. Of course, I mean things like working on your birthday or missing time with your mom sometimes, because the work is important. I’ve asked my models to do a lot of crazy things. We’ve traveled eight hours in one day just to get six photos, and we would do it again.
If I can work with people who genuinely want their vision to be perfect and can collaborate with me to achieve that, I’ll ensure the final product is something you haven’t seen in a while or at all. I make it my job to think outside the box.
