We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diana Morgan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diana below.
Diana , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
For me, creativity is something that needs to be cultivated. I’m more interested in novelty than comfort when it comes to the media I consume, and it’s the same with what I write. I’m always looking for the new thing, the new story that will suck me in and feed my imagination. I look for the creativity in other projects, for things that are similar to what I want to do, and think about how I can use it to make my own ideas blossom.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a creative writer and author in the St Louis area. I write science fiction and fantasy stories. My first novel is Alliances, and the second, Retributions, will be out later in 2026. I also have several short stories published.
I write stories that center women and people with disabilities, especially neurodivergent conditions. I also provide author services to writers as a sensitivity reader for ADHD and autism, as well as manuscript critique and coaching for authors looking to improve their writing, ensure they are authentically representing neurodivergent characters, or for neurodivergent writers who want to work with someone with similar experiences.
I’m passionate about helping the writing community and making better representation for disability.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience. Success comes at different times and in different ways. It doesn’t look the same for everyone. When you are struggling with disability, working full-time, and caring for family, investing time in your dreams is limited, and you often get derailed. Learning to be patient and when to take risks is essential.
Lifelong learning. No matter what you do with your life, you should never stop learning. Listen to people who are doing the thing you want to do. I spent too many years listening to advice from people who only wanted me to be safe, to be their version of success. When I started learning from the people who were actually succeeding at what I wanted, I started to grow.
Community is vital. My writer and artist friends have been the most important to my success. My allies, my support, and my mentors at every turn. I’m grateful for every person who’s supported me through my journey and continues to support other artists as much as I can. It really is a community effort.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Keep writing, keep creating. There is no such thing as writing that can’t be edited and improved, but you can’t edit a blank page. It’s okay if it’s not perfect the first time. Always keep going.
