Meet Kelly Elsas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kelly Elsas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kelly , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Thank you again for having me!

For me, it’s really intentional.
I think we can choose to see the good in each situation, accept when a situation is a total loss and hope for better in the future. I also believe optimism attracts positive energy and makes space for better experiences to fall into your life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m originally from the East Coast. I was born in New York and grew up in Rumson, New Jersey. I moved to Los Angeles, California in 2020 to complete my MFA in Filmmaking. From there, I started booking jobs in front of the camera. I think what’s special about film is that it has the ability to impact our day-to-day lives. I think it’s really beautiful when someone feels deeply understood after watching a movie or reading a script. I think it can help you understand people that are different from yourself. You also learn so much about your loved ones based on their opinions (good and bad) about movies. I think it’s really special. There’s so much heart and soul that goes into it.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, honesty, trust and attention to detail were really key for me.

I love this question. If I were to give advice to someone starting out, I would say:

1. Always speak positively about the people you’re working with. It will set the tone for the entire day.

2. Be as helpful as possible.

3. Take the time to thank and appreciate the people that you’re working with.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

Personally, I think we should always be learning.

I think identifying your strengths and weaknesses is great. I think the frequency of always learning or at least being open to learning more will elevate your work, your home and your relationships. For me, it has led to the best mentors and the best experiences. You can limit yourself if you think you have nothing left to learn.
