We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Tyler Holt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Tyler below.
Dr. Tyler, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Do you know it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile? My Father was a pessimist. So many times he would say things couldn’t be done, or wouldn’t work, or that’s not the right way to do it. It was just draining, and I saw how it wore him down. I resolved to find the good in any situation.
What helped was the stories that I ingested when I was younger. Whether it was one of the many books I read, or binging old western movies when I was home sick from school. The tale of perseverance and overcoming obstacles always resonated with me. It planted a seed that no matter what happens there is always something better on the other side. It’s a matter of perspective. You can have something happen that may be bad. You can choose to wallow in the bad… or, you can find a positive from the scenario and build from there.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Chiropractor and a small business owner. My focus is balancing caring for patients, growing the practice, and spending time with my family.
I get excited meeting and helping people. Every new patient is a tapestry of injuries and compensations their body has sustained over the course of their life. It’s my job to get their nervous system working correctly and their body aligned so that they can return to what they love to do. Whether that is being able to move without pain, becoming pickle ball champ, or keeping their stress levels to a minimum. I provide a holistic solution to navigating life. The fun part is seeing someone’s true personality come out when they can get back to pursuing and accomplishing their goals. My favorite is when a patient who was in a bad state starts telling jokes while I’m adjusting them. Then I know we’re on the right path.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Qualities? Hmm how about:
Perseverance. You’ve got to make some mistakes to learn what works and what doesn’t. It’s easier in a school setting or a learning environment, but out in the real world it takes will power to not give up. Find that motivation, whatever it may be, and keep going.
Being genuine. I’ve always been unapologetically me. That’s helped and hindered me along the way. But I don’t worry about what other people think of me. They either like me and we have some fun along the way. Or they don’t, and that’s their loss.
The 3rd would be the skill of Learning. “Learn By Doing” was the motto of both colleges I attended. I’ve seen a lot of people show up to classes, or seminars and just sit and try to absorb knowledge through osmosis. That doesn’t get the best results. You’ve got to ask questions, think critically, try it (if applicable). Don’t be afraid to ask the same question if the answer didn’t make sense. Not everyone is a good teacher, but they may be able to explain it differently. Test your knowledge of the topic and try to explain it to someone who has no idea of what your talking about. Some of my favorite classes were ones that everyone else hated, because the teacher challenged us to use the knowledge we should have been learning, instead of just regurgitating memorized answers on a test.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Working only as much as I had to, to be able to do as much as I can during those ten years. I have 2 young daughters, 2 1/2 and 1 years old. So I would be spending as much time with them and my wife as I could. Imparting as much knowledge, common sense, and skills as I could to my daughters to prepare them as best as I can. Traveling, exploring new cultures, food, cities, and natural wonders. Experiencing as much of the world as I could and bringing my family along for the ride. I want my daughters to know that life should be lived, not viewed through a screen. I’m gonna try my best to do this for them anyways, but knowing would prioritize it.
