Meet Katie Thomas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Katie, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

It may sound cheesy or cliche, but my optimism comes from the Lord. I would not be where I am today without His promises that He has kept–and that is that He WILL sustain me. I am blessed to not know what it is like to live my life without the Lord, so I guess it is kind of engrained in me that no matter what challenge I face or what storm I weather, He is working it all for good and I will come out of it stronger.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Katie Thomas and I’m the owner and face behind the camera of Katie Thomas Photography. With me, couples encounter an intentional and meaningful approach in their wedding photography experience. My goal is for them to feel relaxed, confident, and present when working with me on their wedding day.

I don’t take it lightly that I get to be a part of so many people’s greatest day of their lives. I get to have a front row seat to each and every special moment on their wedding day, not only witnessing it, but capturing it so that their story can be told in a beautiful way for many years to come. What an honor.

I am taking on a limited number of weddings for 2026 and 2027 and I’m excited to see where this next year takes me in my business!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I realized that I’ve always had an eye for photography. I didn’t realize it until I held a real camera for the first time, and then it “clicked” (pun intended!). It was easy and natural for me to take photos.

I am also the type to take leadership and handles being under pressure well–qualities that are an absolute must for a wedding photographer. Early on in my career, I told myself I would never photograph weddings. Haha! Then I did one for a friend and realized that everything I was intimidated by before were actually the things that I thrive on when it comes to photographing such monumental days.

Being a business owner requires large amounts of organization and communication skills, both of which I have always done well with. I am very passionate about being involved with helping my couples plan their wedding. This means responding in a timely manner, organizing wedding day timelines well, and keeping up with scheduling photoshoots, weddings, and phone calls.

My advice to anyone new in the field would be this: don’t stop pursuing education and opportunities to grow! The opportunities are truly endless.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client loves others boldly and puts her faith in Jesus. She is someone who puts a lot of thought and intention into not only her wedding but her life in general. She wants to be fully present, soaking up every moment as it comes. While she may have a hard time with releasing control in some areas of her life, and this definitely overflows into wedding planning, she trusts that her wedding vendors are going to go above and beyond her wildest wedding dreams. She wants her photos to represent her day as it was–timeless, classic, elegant.
