Meet Willa Rai

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Willa Rai. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Willa, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I keep my creativity alive by journaling and listening to some of my favorite artists like Mariah the Scientist, Kehlani, and Denzel Curry. Seeing other artists’ creative projects inspires me and helps me stay connected to my own creativity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a writer and an artist. That’s a simple way to sum it up, but I’m truly a jack of all trades when it comes to creativity. Right now, I’ve written two books for my series, Sweetness.

This series follows the becoming of a young Black woman who fights for herself, her lineage, and other women. It blends horror, Southern gothic, and romance, and is deeply inspired by my own journey into adulthood and womanhood.

Beyond writing, I also paint, draw, and create digital art. When I first started building my platform, it was centered around my art and spirituality, but over time, things naturally shifted and expanded.

The most exciting part of everything I’m doing is that it’s all intentional; and I’m doing it independently. For a long time, I was afraid to put myself out there, but I’m grateful that I’ve healed and grown enough to finally do so.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are:

Patience
Consistency
Having the willingness to grow

My advice is to enjoy the journey and enjoy the process. Everyone is so obsessed with having quick success. It’s better to take your time, grow, and learn all that you can so you can have true stability. Don’t let anyone tell you what success should look like or where you should be. Everything happens in divine timing.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

most impactful thing my parents did was teach me how to have my own and not depend on anyone else. My father, especially, taught me the importance of being stable and building something for myself; so no one can take away what I’ve worked hard to create.
