Meet Crystal Portwood

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Crystal Portwood. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Crystal, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

As a content creator this is one of the biggest careers that makes imposter syndrome seem impossible to get out of. The way I pushed through was practice practice practice. Looking back at my old videos vs now they’re embarrassing but I decide to look at them from time to time to show myself how far I have come. Being on camera is also very tough especially when I lacked confidence. I was able to push through this by working on myself before filming. Whether that was a cute outfit, hair done, makeup done etc. That way when you look good you feel good. Another big topic is “what will people think of me?” My greatest feeling is proving to people who doubt me wrong. Some think it’s bad but I call it drive and ambition to push myself to be the best I can be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I started gardening a few years ago and have never looked back. From growing my own organic fruits, veggies, herbs, and flowers, nothing tastes better than a fresh picked piece of food straight off the vine. I started on TikTok a few years ago to share my journey of being a self taught gardener and teaching others how to start a garden as a beginner. Less complicated and more broken down information to make it easier. Gardening can seem overwhelming at first but once you know the basics you’ll have a green thumb. I am now a full time gardening consultant and content creator. I offer local and virtual consultations that are specifically designed for my clients. I have expanded my business to downloadable ebooks and my newest addition is gardening quote T-shirts for sale on my website. www.crystalportwood.com/store

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back at when I started my own business I learned so many great qualities such as patience, not only in gardening but as a business woman. I never stop learning and I always go by the quote “the more knowledge you have the more powerful you are” this has helped me so much to continue learning. I create goals every New Year’s Eve in a planner and then each week I write out small goals. “Unwritten goals are just wishes”. Never give up and never stop learning.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

My dream goal of collaboration would be my own HGTV show but instead of everything being unrealistic, I can teach real life gardening, affordable and beginner friendly step by step episodes. I would love to be on a podcast and share my story and gardening tips. I am always open to local plant nurseries collaborating through workshops, creating videos, and events. Commercials promoting gardening products, and sharing gardening tips. For any future collaborations I would love to connect through my email [email protected]
