Meet Keira Smith

We recently connected with Keira Smith and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Keira , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

Honestly, my work ethic comes straight from my parents. Growing up, I watched both my mom and dad grind nonstop to make sure my brother and I always had a roof over our heads. They believed in going for what you want and putting real effort behind it. No shortcuts.

My mom is a lawyer, and I remember seeing her stay up until daylight preparing for cases. But what really stuck with me wasn’t just how long she worked — it was how organized, intentional, and detailed she was with her clients. My dad is a music producer, and watching him build beats from scratch for hours taught me patience and precision. He’d spend so much time fine-tuning the smallest things I couldn’t even hear yet.

Seeing both of them pour so much focus and love into their craft — and still show up as amazing parents — taught me what it really means to take initiative and show up fully. I’m grateful for them every day.
Love you, Mother and Father Lee!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hey hey! My name is Keira — your Atlanta girly who sings, acts, and teaches vocals. I like to say I’m an old soul with a young edge. My roots started in theatre when I was nine, and that love naturally blossomed into singing.

Performing in musicals pushed me to grow as a vocalist, which led me to Berklee College of Music. While there, I did my first big live shows and performed alongside icons like Missy Elliott and Terri Lyne Carrington. After graduating in 2022, I missed the theatrical world, so I decided to dive into acting while still keeping music close by becoming a vocal instructor at School of Rock Buckhead.

Acting opened doors for me to step into film and TV — I’ve been in “Beauty in Black” and now “What’s in the Box,” a new Netflix game show that premiered on December 17th (go watch!). This moment has me excited to keep auditioning and expand into more TV and hopefully movies. I can’t wait to see what journey God takes me on in 2026.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities that have shaped me the most are:
1. Keeping God first
2. Putting yourself first
3. Enjoying the journey

Life is full of ups and downs, and through all of them, God has been my center. When I was younger, I said yes to everything because I wanted to learn and grow. As I got older, I realized that having a consistent schedule meant I couldn’t pour into everything without draining myself. That taught me the importance of saying no, setting boundaries, and trusting that if something is meant for me, it will align.

And finally, enjoying the journey is major. Every experience — good, stressful, exciting — shapes you for your next level. It’s okay to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the process. The growth makes the destination worth it.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I’ve always believed we were born to explore more than one thing. Yes, we all have one purpose that grounds us, but on the way there, we discover other gifts we enjoy — and those can become part of our purpose too.

I fell in love with theatre because it combines multiple art forms: singing, dancing, acting, directing… it’s endless creativity in one place. Even in college, my very first audition wasn’t singing — it was rapping. That moment changed everything. Most of my performances at Berklee ended up being rap-based, which led to opportunities to perform for Sylvia Rhone and Missy Elliott.

For me, there’s no limit when it comes to creating. You should always lean into your strengths, but don’t be afraid to develop the things you enjoy too. That’s how you grow, evolve, and discover who you really are as an artist.
