We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natalie Pedersen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natalie below.
Hi Natalie, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
To say that I have “overcome” imposter syndrome just isn’t true. While I’ve accomplished a lot, I still get the feeling that I don’t deserve it; however, I’ve gotten much better at combating that feeling. When I find myself comparing myself to others and feeling behind, I try to step back and look at how much I’ve grown. Nobody is perfect, and everyone has their own unique path to follow, it’s important to remember that I’m gaining the skills and experiences to live out my path, not someone else’s.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Motion Designer for an entertainment marketing agency and as of recently, I also make YouTube videos with my best friend, Lili. What I enjoy most about my work is that I’m constantly learning new things about digital art that I can apply to other areas of my life. I treat my day job as a masters course in digital media, it has really given me a space to learn a huge amount of new skills like compositing, motion graphics, and even 3D work! These skills are transferable to my personal work, and allow me to make professional level content all on my own. I’m really excited to kick off this YouTube channel with Lili, it has always been a dream for me to create something on my own for an audience to enjoy, so make sure to check us out if you are a fan of vlogging, gaming, and everything in between!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I would say the three things that got me where I am are a good support system, resilience, and an openness to learn. My senior year of college was a really defining time, I decided to switch my focus to post production, and build a new portfolio entirely from scratch in less than a year. I had a great support system of professors, friends, and family that cheered me on and aided me in any way they could. Of course I faced rejection and push back, but I learned that a “no” is often times really a “not yet, keep trying.” I am still very early in my journey, but I have decided to live the life I want to live, make the art that I want to make, and be the person I want to be, because if you just sit there and hope it will happen, you will be out of time before you know it.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle I am currently facing is trying to live a post graduate life. My whole life up until this point has been school , and now I have been thrown into the real world with my first big girl job and apartment. Admittedly, it’s terrifying, but I try not to lose track of who I am, and my real dreams and aspirations in life. It’s easy to fall into a routine, but I am finding that I am not the type of person who wants to. I dreamt big as a student, and I won’t stop now that I’m comfortable. To overcome this feeling, I am putting in the extra work to make sure my dreams come true, and at the very least say I tried to make them happen instead of waiting for them to happen.
