Kiva Richardson on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Kiva Richardson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Kiva , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’m avoiding is learning patience. Releasing the urge to rush timelines in my life and quieting intrusive thoughts about where I think I should be, instead of trusting the process.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kiva Richardson, an Atlanta-born, Memphis-bred independent R&B artist. I am currently unsigned and release my music independently, which has allowed me to build a unique and authentic creative journey on my own terms. My most recent single, “Queen of the Room,” is an empowering anthem that celebrates female confidence and self-worth, with a remix currently in the works and set to be released soon. In addition to my work as an artist, I am actively involved in the world of sync licensing, with multiple film placements, with projects on Lifetime including Friends & Lovers, inspired by best-selling author Eric Jerome Dickey, and the Bet+ Holiday film Whatever it takes. With more releases and placements on the horizon, I am focused on continuing to grow my artistry and expand my impact across music and media.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Learning to trust God’s voice over my own fear has been the moment that changed everything. Through prayer and faith, I began to recognize guidance in unexpected ways, which taught me patience, discernment, and purpose.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would remind my younger self especially during my twenties that I am a beautiful, kind, God fearing woman who deserves the very best. I would tell myself that it’s not my responsibility to change anyone or convince them of my worth. I would also encourage myself to be patient and to trust God’s timing. If He placed a desire in my heart, it was never without purpose. He has plans to fulfill it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is faith. Trusting God’s timing, purpose, and direction. In a world that constantly rushes everything, I prioritize patience, prayer, and living with intention.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That energy is sacred and what we give is always returned, guided by God’s timing.
