We recently connected with Sydney Moeller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Answered a different question: How did you find the courage to pursue an entrepreneurial path?
There’s a philosophy that you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with, and I found this to be extraordinarily true when I began dreaming about a path beyond my familiar 9–5. Making intentional choices about who I surrounded myself with—and how much weight I gave to their opinions—became the single most important factor in finding the courage to pursue entrepreneurship.
I had built a successful career in interior design. I earned a degree from a top-ranked program, worked for well-known names in the design and entertainment industries, and established credibility and strong relationships across a wide range of colleagues. While I enjoyed the people and projects at my company, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being pulled toward something different. I’ve always had a passion for gift wrapping and for creating thoughtfully wrapped gestures that feel “too beautiful to open.” Quietly, I wrestled with an internal debate: “You’re a respected leader with a solid career. Why would you risk it for something that feels so frivolous?”
Eventually, I began opening up to a few close friends – people with entrepreneurial backgrounds and ambitions whom I trusted to be honest if my idea was unrealistic. Instead of doubt, I found encouragement, curiosity, and enthusiastic brainstorming partners. That support emboldened me to keep building the idea. As I shared it more widely within my network, the encouragement only grew. Even as I questioned whether I had the hustle required to run a gift-wrapping business, my community became a constant cheering section, giving me the confidence to step away from my corporate role and continue supporting me well beyond that leap.
Today, I’ve unofficially dubbed certain friends and family members my personal “board of directors”: people I trust to tell me the truth, challenge my thinking, and offer insight in areas where I’m still learning. By intentionally surrounding myself with people who have challenged and championed me, I found the courage to bet on myself, and to keep doing so every day.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I think we all remember a time when we received a beautifully wrapped gift: when the texture of the paper, the elegance of the bow, or a memorable embellishment transformed it from a present into a thoughtful gesture. Those details create a moment of connection between giver and recipient. In an age where we are increasingly connected through screens and shaped by fast-moving societal norms, these moments of tangible, human warmth are becoming rarer and all the more meaningful when they occur.
With Paperly Goods, a mobile luxury gift wrapping brand, my goal is to create more of those moments and help people give presents with presence. We meet clients where they are, whether in private homes, corporate offices, or event spaces, and bring a design-forward approach to an often-overlooked detail. Drawing on my background in interior design, I approach gift wrapping as an experience rather than a final step. Each design is thoughtfully composed to engage as many of the five senses as possible. Premium papers, luxe ribbons, scented or musical embellishments (such as cinnamon sticks, dehydrated citrus, or jingle bells) and conversation-worthy artifacts turn the act of gift giving into a memorable, emotionally-resonant experience.
While I have a deep appreciation for paper and the artistry of gift wrapping, the industry itself is not particularly sustainable, with an estimated 2.3 million pounds of wrapping paper ending up in landfills each year. As Paperly Goods continues to grow, we are committed to exploring and developing more sustainable alternatives, such as fabric wraps and thoughtfully sourced kraft papers, with the goal of redefining what luxury gift wrapping can look like when beauty and sustainability coexist.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Commit to Continuous Learning
The most impactful skill in my journey has been a willingness to keep learning, seeking out new information, perspectives, and feedback as the business evolves. You don’t need to have all the answers or be the expert in the room; growth comes from curiosity, humility, and the ability to adapt quickly.
2. Build and Nurture Relationships
Entrepreneurship is not a solo pursuit, and the relationships you build matter as much as the product or service itself. Invest time in genuine connections with mentors, peers, collaborators, and clients; these strong relationships create opportunity, resilience, and long-term momentum.
3. Celebrate Every Win
Learning to celebrate wins, especially the small ones, is essential to staying motivated through the inevitable challenges of entrepreneurship. Acknowledging progress builds confidence and resilience, reminding you how far you’ve come on the days when forward movement feels slow.

How would you describe your ideal client?
Our ideal client is someone who believes that details matter, and understands that the smallest touch points often leave the most lasting impressions. They value design, intentionality, and experience, and they see gift-giving not as a transaction or obligation, but as an opportunity to communicate care, gratitude, or celebration in a meaningful way.
That client might be a brand leader or executive who wants corporate gifting to feel personal rather than perfunctory; a homeowner or host who delights in creating elevated moments for family and guests; or a hospitality, lifestyle, or leisure professional who understands that thoughtful presentation is part of an exceptional experience. Across all of these contexts, our ideal clients share an appreciation for quality, aesthetics, and the power of a well-considered gesture.
At Paperly Goods, we work best with individuals and organizations who trust creative expertise and are excited to collaborate on experiences that feel refined, memorable, and human. Those who believe that how something is given matters just as much as what’s inside are an ideal fit for our work.
