With Season 4 of 50 Dates 50 States, Matthew Wurnig is flipping the script by introducing the show’s first-ever female lead. The shift brings a new energy to the series — from reimagined date dynamics to a fresh casting process — while Matthew steps into a hosting role and lets a new star take center stage. The goal remains the same: spark connection, showcase the diversity of life across America, and give audiences someone new to root for as the journey toward love unfolds state by state.
Matthew, you’ve just announced Season 4 of 50 Dates 50 States—what inspired the decision to introduce the show’s first-ever female lead?
I wanted to freshen things up from previous seasons. Seasons 1-3 featured myself as the star traveling the US, going on dates in every state. Although the format has changed throughout the season, I knew in order to grow the show even bigger, I had to take that next step I had to find a new star.
How does this new season differ creatively or thematically from the previous seasons?
It differs creatively in a lot of ways. Since there is a new female lead, it changes things from dates being girls to dates being guys, which is a whole shift in itself. Date application is different, date selection process is different and the dates themselves will be different.
What were you most excited about when developing this new chapter of the series?
I’m really excited about a lot of things. The dynamic of the dates, me transitioning to hosting the show, seeing how the new star grows throughout the season and pushes her comfort zone, and of course seeing who the Top 5 dates are and the winner.
How has the audience response evolved since the show first launched, and how did that feedback shape Season 4?
The audience has grown a lot since the first season. It’s been great to see their interest shift and who they cheer for each season regarding the dates. However, I definitely know the audience is ready for a new star and something fresh, so I’m excited to see their reactions during Season 4.
Looking ahead, what do you hope viewers take away from this new season of 50 Dates 50 States?
I’m hoping that viewers want to follow the new star and her path to potentially finding “the one.” I’m hoping they cheer her on, give feedback on dates and are ultimately entertained all season long. The goal of 50 Dates 50 States is to make people smile and show the different lifestyles throughout America. I hope the audience resonates with that during Season 4.
