Aadya Chaudhary shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Aadya, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Currently, it’s the summer after high school for me which means relaxing and honestly doing a lot of “nothing.” Which I think is really important: just connecting with those around you and taking some time for yourself before going into the college journey. I’ve been spending time working on my nonprofit Empowerfly with my amazing co-founding team, learning a bit of videography, spending time with family and friends, and watching Gossip Girl on Netflix!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Of course! I’m Aadya Chaudhary, the 18-year-old co-founder of Empowerfly, a global nonprofit built by and for young girls. We’re focused on bringing resources and mentorship to young women in over 35 countries, helping them feel confident and supported as they navigate their career and educational journeys. Our work combines grassroots community building with digital innovation to make opportunities accessible to youth everywhere.
Outside of Empowerfly, I create content around college advice/life, photography, and storytelling. Over the past year, I’ve really leaned into digital marketing, helping brands and creators grow their reach. I’ve also been working closely with students to build their own nonprofits and dream projects, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a kid, I used to believe that you had to “wait your turn” to do meaningful things, that impact and leadership were reserved for adults or people with impressive titles. I thought I had to grow up first to make a difference. Over time, through co-starting Empowerfly and connecting with young changemakers around the world, I realized that age isn’t a barrier to impact. You bring fresh perspectives, creativity, and urgency to the table when you’re young. I truly believe that you don’t have to wait to start building something meaningful, you just have to start.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
For sure. One of my closest friends from high school has always been that person. Over the years, they’ve consistently heard me out, truly understood me, and made me feel seen. No matter your field or age, having someone you trust to talk things through with, especially during challenging moments, can make a huge difference.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m wholeheartedly committed to Empowerfly and its mission to create opportunities, mentorship, and support for young girls around the world. My goal is to continue developing impactful programs, resources, and a global community that support individuals in confidently navigating their passions and careers. We’re working on a lot of exciting projects right now and I can’t wait until those are out!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I think I’d regret not spending enough time with friends, family, and even just myself. With so much going on, it’s easy to get caught up in work, so I’m learning to slow down, be present, and genuinely enjoy the moment because I know I’ll regret it if I don’t.
