Alexis Hyson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Alexis, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel like I’ve been called to lead and to create community within the nail industry. For a long time, I ran from that because I was afraid to speak in front of people. I knew I had something to share, but the idea of being the one in front teaching, guiding, or hosting honestly made me nervous. Over time, though, I realized that fear doesn’t go away by waiting; it goes away by moving. So I started showing up anyway speaking to students, hosting events, and sharing my experiences even when my voice was shaking. And through that, I’ve found so much confidence and purpose.
I want people to know that if you feel called to do something that scares you, that’s usually a sign that it’s exactly what you’re meant to do. Growth happens in those uncomfortable spaces, and once you take that first step, you’ll see how capable you really are.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alexis Hyson, and I’m a nail Educator, Licensed nail tech and the owner and creator behind Royal Tipz Online Nail Supply. I’ve been a licensed nail tech for over six years, and what started as me simply wanting to make people feel beautiful through nails has grown into a full brand that empowers other nail techs to build and believe in themselves.
Royal Tipz represents more than just nails, it’s about confidence, creativity, and community. I create high-quality nail products, teach classes, and host events that bring nail techs together to learn, grow, and support one another. Over time, I’ve learned that my purpose isn’t just to do nails- it’s to lead, inspire, and create spaces where others feel seen and capable.
Right now, I’m in a season of focusing on brand awareness really getting my name and products out there and showing people what Royal Tipz stands for. I want the world to see that this brand is built from passion, quality, and genuine purpose. Whether it’s through teaching classes, collaborating with schools, or connecting at events, I’m intentional about putting Royal Tipz in front of new audiences and creating a lasting impact in the nail community.
Ultimately, my goal is to continue building a brand that not only delivers great products and education but also inspires others to walk boldly in their calling even when it feels uncomfortable.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
A part of me that has served its purpose and that I’ve had to release is the version of myself that moved too fast. In the beginning of my career, I was constantly comparing myself to others, always chasing the next milestone instead of embracing where I was. I was moving so quickly that I couldn’t see clearly what God was truly calling me to do.
A pivotal moment for me was during Hurricane Beryl, when my shop lost power for over a month and a half. Every day, I still went to that salon, and I prayed over the space, over my business, over my future. At the time, I didn’t realize that God was preparing me to release that very thing. A few months later, in April, during prayer, God told me it was time to let the salon go. That was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made because I had poured my heart and soul into creating that space. But I now understand that God needed me to step away from being just a service provider so I could focus on the bigger purpose He placed in me to build community, to lead, and to pour into others.
When I decided to go back to the drawing board and start again, I told God that this time, I would do it His way. That moment was my full surrender choosing to release everything not aligned with His will and allowing Him to guide me completely. And because of that obedience, I’ve found the strength to do everything I once avoided to lead, to speak, and to create community within the nail industry.
Letting go wasn’t easy, but it’s been the most freeing and transformative part of my journey. It’s taught me that when you trust God’s timing, He’ll not only restore what you’ve released but elevate it beyond what you ever imagined.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and started using it as power when I realized that everything I went through was never meant to break me it was meant to build me. For a long time, I carried so much silently disappointments, fear, and the pressure of trying to hold everything together while still showing up strong for everyone else. I didn’t realize that by hiding my pain, I was also hiding my story — and my story is the very thing God wanted to use to reach others.
It wasn’t until I hit a place where I had to completely surrender when things weren’t going the way I planned, when I let my nail studio go, when I had to start over that I began to see how God was shaping me. I started to speak openly about my experiences, and the more I shared, the more I connected with others who felt the same way. That’s when I understood that my pain had a purpose.
Now, I use my story to empower others to remind them that setbacks aren’t endings; they’re redirections. Every closed door, every slow season, every loss I’ve faced has pushed me closer to my purpose. My strength, my faith, and even my business have all been built from the very moments I once wanted to hide.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie my industry tells itself is that you have to be booked and busy to be successful. While it can feel rewarding to have a full schedule and a high demand for your work, over time you start to realize that being constantly booked can actually pull you away from your true purpose and calling.
Being booked and busy requires a lot of energy, energy that we don’t always have to give. It can lead to burnout, frustration, and a disconnect from why we started in the first place. I had to learn that success isn’t just about how many clients you serve; it’s also about how well you serve yourself, your purpose, and the people you’re called to impact.
Balance is key. When you give yourself space to rest, reflect, and realign, you make room for creativity, clarity, and peace and that’s where the real success begins.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That’s such a powerful question because it takes me back to a very pivotal moment in my career. A few years ago, there was a celebrity named Jackie who passed away, and what impacted me most wasn’t her death — it was what followed. The love, the kindness, and the beautiful energy that surrounded her name online were so powerful. People weren’t just talking about what she did, but how she did it — how she showed up, how she made others feel, and the light she carried while she was here.
That moment really stopped me in my tracks and made me ask myself, “If I were to leave today, what would people say about me?” The truth is, I didn’t like the answer that came to mind. It made me emotional because I realized I was so focused on working and achieving that I wasn’t being intentional about how I was showing up for others. From that moment on, I made the decision to live differently — to use my time, my voice, and my platform to uplift, encourage, and lead people closer to God.
I want my story to be one of impact, not image. I want people to remember that I built others up, that I used my gifts to serve God’s purpose, and that I showed up with love and authenticity in everything I did.
That reflection also pushed me to stop letting false labels or other people’s opinions define who I was. For a long time, I carried names and expectations that weren’t mine. But once I released that and chose to walk in who God called me to be, everything began to shift. Now, I take every opportunity as a chance to live out that purpose — fully, fearlessly, and faithfully.
When I’m gone, I want people to say, “She loved deeply, she gave freely, and she walked boldly in her calling.”
